Nokia Device Status launched at Beta Labs

Nokia Device Status is a self-diagnosis tool that allows you to collect detailed system information both from your PC and your S60 device. Your current device configuration and phone settings are presented in a detailed summary, which you can use to determine the exact cause, if you run into problems.
Device Status 1.1 is the first public release of this piece of software. Technically it’s quite mature, but as a concept still under development. Right now, the development team is evaluating different options how to make it useful for mainstream users, and how to integrate it effectively with customer care systems.

Interesting app, though I’m not sure that I want to share data from my mobile device or PC.

Looks interesting. Would it be possible to provide a n additional download link for the SIS file on its own? That way non-Windows users can at least get the phone app.
Is it a Windows application, or an app to run on the phone itself? If the latter, I’d like to second James’ request above for a link to the .sis so I can install it without having Windows (which I don’t have). If the former, is how it retrieves information about the phone documented?
A debugging godsend, that’s what this is.
On my N95, the app is stable, and all functions work well. Congratulations on the complexity of the information displayed. Both about the phone, and about the PC.
I do have a suggestion, but it might clutter up Device Status: make it like a complete task manager. Add the ability to switvh between running apps, terminate processes etc.

Nice stuff - worked without a hitch for me. I think this might be of use to third party developers too given that problems sometime occurs when there is a clash of application or a firmware issue (e.g. the VoIP stuff a while back).
I still don’t really like the enforced use of the Nokia style in Windows applications (black - Nseries esque look), but that’s a generic issue. From the Nseries PC Suite it looks like theme style might be supported - can we have one that follow the standard Windows look please.
Other than that there’s only minor things - maybe the ability to export only certain things (e.g. why send the PC Software Update log - most of the time it wont be needed). Maybe instead of Application 1, Application 2 etc etc use the actual application name.
I suppose the next thing to do would be a monitoring module that recorded information as you did something (e.g. sampling free memory) as carried out other phone activities. A snap shot is useful, but I would imagine developers / support people might need to see the status as a problem occurs (thinking application testing here, rather than just checking obvious stuff like access points / software clashes etc).
For those reading this - the applications do not send information unless you specifically do so. Obviously its geared up for that sort of use though. The phone application sends info to the PC application for easier reading / exporting.
Installation fails on my N95, via bluetooth or usb. The connection is detected, but it does not work out.
Worked perfectly on my phone, really accurate. It just substituted 2 separate apps I had, make it possible to kill processes (kill, not close) and it will be the ultimate tool.
And I just created a “beta labs” folder on my menu, keep those apps coming

I agree, I prefer sis file, so I can install it only on the phone … my Nokia PC Suite is not working well, so I can not install using Windows installer … and also, there are quite a few people with Linux or Mac, it should not be that dificult to have sis posted on the web
It wont transfer the installation file to my phone. Asks me to check whether the phone is corrected properly. I think it is time for a Format
About Mac, the answer (at least at this point) is probably no. But about releasing a separate sis file, let’s investigate

Why Nokia doesn’t learn that desktop SW shouldn’t be Windows only? Just change the whole strategy in the company regarding PC SW!

Well, we know the system can determine all the necessary info for a software update from the phone (i.e. using the Windows updater with the phone in PC Suite mode), so why not just query the update server from the S60 app, and let us know about software updates as an alert?

The application is only compatible with S60 3rd edition devices. The N70 is 2nd edition.
Hi, a great app, though I agree that the added ability to kill running processes would make Device Status an absolute essential.
Just a couple of issues…
Its not immediately obvious that I was running PC Suite 6.81 and not 6.84 as required. The error message upon attempting to run the application just said that PC Suite did not exist. I eventually spotted the System Requirements tab on the Device Status page and then realised I was running an out of date PC Suite.
And finally just that the “Device Status feedback form” doesn’t link to a recognised Nokia page.
