It was nice to meet many of you at "Evening with S60" in Helsinki yesterday.
Things that I promised to do:
- 1. Ask from our Voice UI team to add a possibility to switch off Voice Commands. Otherwise, Bluetooth headsets that don't have keylock sometimes make unwanted "pocket calls". Done.
- 2. Ask from PC Suite team about the SMS backup: when you copy-paste messages from PC Suite => File Manager => Messages folder to your PC, how could you preserve the message dates in file properties? Done.
- 3. Tell to the team behind Data Transfer application about two volunteers who were willing to give direct feedback about the app, when using it in daily synching between multiple devices. Done.
Did I forget something?
Note: by "done", I mean that I passed on the message to the right Nokia people. No promises about implementation etc.
Comments
Oh, almost forgot:
4) Consider opening an unofficial hotline for the 0,01% of most advanced users (=you) to report errors.
Posted by: Tommi Vilkamo | June 15, 2007 12:27 PM5) Ask them if and when the new S60 Browser will be available for the older FP0 devices. I guess thats the question bothering most of us. :)
Posted by: Robert | June 15, 2007 04:44 PMBefore updating phone firmware with NSU, i back up phone memory to memory card and the following items are not preserved:
Posted by: Jukka | June 15, 2007 07:59 PM-subscribed podcasts
-subscribed rss feeds (other browser favorites are preserved though)
5) (again) agreed - we need a bugfixed if not the new browser on the N80 and other FP0 devices.
Posted by: Aris | June 15, 2007 09:09 PM6) tell firmware team to fix the bug (omission?) that afflicts only US firmware version NSeries devices (N80, N73 and even N95) of # key not switching between general and silent profile
7) provide me with the unofficial hotline number so I can report more bugs that NEED to be fixed :-)
8) Get them to separate the language settings for the phone interface and text-to-speech generation. I hate to use the Finnish interface on my phone, but since I like for the phone to speak out incoming callers names I have to keep the interface on Finnish since the names sound funky spoken with an English accent.
Posted by: Sami | June 16, 2007 12:57 AMThank You again for the S60 evening in Helsinki, it was really great! Maybe I should just be happy and silent... On the other hand now I have two reasons to comment here about S60 V3 FP0 ... :-)
If we are at it, I would like to add a vote for point 5. the browser update question - as you might have guessed. I think the acctuall question is: who is the authority in this issue who understands all aspects - technical and marketing and also CAN - have the authority - to make a decision?
I would also like to add the following points:
8. Please try to lobby for fixing the memory leak in S60 V3 FP0. Most days it is needed to reboot the phone to maintain good performance. (or maybe we could just get FP1 with the fix :-)
9. As I was playing with the E61i I realized that since the latest Firmware for my E70 had an identical number to the latest firmware upgrade of the E61, would it be possible to get the same firmware what the E61i has, instead of the E61 firmware I have now. Could you please ask the E-series people if we could get that firmware for the E70? In theory the E70 is closer in hardware to the E61i than to he E61, so I suppose it should be possible. I would like to register for Beta testing this if you need someone! :-)
Thanks again and Best Regards!
Aron
p.s.: Pete is talking about S60 Agents in America... How about Helsinki? :-)
Posted by: Aron | June 16, 2007 02:36 AM10) Ask for easier way to swich writting language. Something like on PC - setup 2 or 3 languages and switch between them with key shortcut. It's annoing and slow for simple thing like this to go thru menus and end in list with all supported languages.
For users which natural alphabet isn't latin this is like punishment. And in new phones even pencil key is missing. In some cases it is the only way to switch language without cancel input.
Posted by: Zlatko | June 16, 2007 06:00 PM"And in new phones even pencil key is missing."
You can switch languages using the shift/# key, it's completely replaced the functions of the pencil key.
Posted by: krisse | June 17, 2007 02:22 AMI'll take a (most likely silly) initiative here: send error reports to me at jukka@s60.com. I don't make any promises, I won't reply to all messages but I'll browse through and will input real errors to the relevant system.
Posted by: Jukka Eklund | June 17, 2007 09:29 AMRegarding SMS backup, how about saving them directly from phones into an IMAP mailbox ?
In an aside, it'd be definitely great if there was a PC Suite version for Linux and specially for Ubuntu, including easy connectivity with USB cables - cos' it's currently not very easy to take full advantage of mobiles from Linux.
Posted by: kael | June 19, 2007 01:27 AMTommi, can you please submit to someone, anyone:
One thing that S60 could do a LOT better: trust the USER. Why every time I do something I have to CONFIRM. Delete a SMS. "Are you sure? Are you really sure?" Why not instead just delete (perhaps after first selecting "do not ask this question again") and move the deleted message to a trash folder from which you can restore (e.g. within the next 24 hours after which it auto empties it)? Or have an Undo function.
There are many other instances where an Undo function would also allow stop having to confirm again and again and again..
Hate to say this, but this is another aspect where the infamous iPhone UI seems to do better.
Posted by: Viipottaja | June 23, 2007 03:32 PM11) Ask PC-Suite team to sync also the groups the contacts belong to.
Posted by: tdo | July 9, 2007 01:51 PMWithout Pencil key, how to you mark multiple items at once in applications such as File Manager?
Posted by: ricky | November 8, 2007 10:43 PMPC Suite version for Linux only you know.
