February 06, 2007 Nokia N73 review by a first-time S60 user Posted by Tommi at 11:21 AM | Categories: Devices

A first-time S60 user called Steven Wittens has written an insightful Nokia N73 review. Nokia people: go check it out. The author defines himself as web developer, engineer, and geek. So if he finds something in our devices or in S60 awkward, I think we should listen.

It is indeed a good review from a first time user. Very important. However there's some out-of-date errors, that new fw came to fix, like the Mp3 player not going to background easily!

Yeah, I know. But if some web-developer-engineer-geek can't figure out something, I guess it's worth thinking whether it could be made easier aomehow.

I don't have the answers, just wondering aloud.

I can't figure UI or the OS Apple uses on it's computers..And everybody raves how superior it is.

And why can't I? Well I'm used to windows machines..

very good review, and the points he makes applies to some extent to the n80 as well. the comments he got were also interesting.

Ok, I kinda like this first time user review.

First of all I've been using Nokias smartphone since the 3650. I have the Nokia N73 since 6 months now and I think it is an incredible phone.

Most of the smartphone you can get today are very advanced and very different from a Nokia 3310. You don't get a Nokia N73 for making calls and sending SMS. You get a Nokia N73 if you want to have in your pocket all the time a good digital camera, you want to install java application, you want to access the web and your email, you want to watch videos, you want to upload your blog.

So if your objective is the phone, sms and camera functions The Nokia N73 is not the right phone for you.

The Nokia is working great with Windows, I can synch outlook, contacts, calendar, tasks without any problems. The setup is a piece of cake. Just install the Nokia PC suite.

For the music it is very easy to synch itunes or any other programs with the N73. To have more control on the songs I would recommend you to install the N73 music edition firmware. It is very easy to do, you just need to download a program that will change your N73 product code. As soon as the product code is changed, just plug your N73 to your computer and run the Nokia updater. It will install the new N73 music edition firmware on your N73.

For watching videos, you just need to find online the right format to convert to (MP4). It is very easy with google. You just need to convert your video to the right format that's it. It is very easy to do. You have many forums available. But you need to take time to look for the answer.

To finish I think the N73 is a great smartphone. The only thing missing is the WiFi support. Other than that Nokia did a great job with this killer smartphone. But remember again the Nokia N73 is not for everybody.

Thanks for the plug. In spite of the criticism I gave, I do like the N73 and I think that devices such as these are the future.

I only stick to the phone/sms/camera most of the time, because the other features have usability issues. I'm a sucker for convenience :).

I've posted a reply to some of the comments you and I got here:

can somebody here teach me about nokia N73Music Edition? i want to buy it but i read manny bad comments about it..

- switching between aplication takes 2 - 3 sec,
- they say it ocassionally hangs every week,
- the camera is slow to open or something,
- about the mp3 when playing between track theres some anoying sound,
- memory is full even if he already erase all the message on hes phone
- last i read something like they use the the bluetooth on the computer and it shutdown and cant on it.

i already read that i should download the n73 ME firmware and the something like windowsoftware update.
so if anyone here know how to fix problem on the phone plss email me on xsephirothx_ff7@yahoo.com or add me on my Yahoo Messenger. thanks!! ^_^

Got linked through to here while looking to see if anyone else has had my problem. I am coping with the time delays, "Quick menu" etc, I love this phone. I must say, and I must somehow contact Nokia too, that the big problem with this phone is:

When you are listening to music and the connector accidentally gets disconnected, the music continues LOUDLY. This didn't happen on the 6230i, it was perfect. Obviously it's good to be able to resume the track from where zou left off, but the playback REALLY needs to STOP when the headset is pulled out.

Totally agree, Dee, thanks for the comment.
