« Somebody: fix "Nokia at 3GSM" site quick! | Main | Nokia N73 review by a first-time S60 user »

I just bumped into a newish blog called Future Watch Blog, which states:
In 2007, the N-Gage experience will evolve. ... The Future Watch site is about that transformation, and our blog is at the heart of the Future Watch site. Brought to you by the talented team that created the N-Gage Arena ... it’s a place where we can have a two-way chat with you about the exciting transformations in our mobile, connected lives.
Subscribed. Let's see if this gets interesting.
The site says that the blog is a Nokia sponsored resource, and in many places it is referred to as the official N-Gage blog. Hmmm.... I thought I knew every Nokia blogger, or at least the official and semi-official ones. Do you know who is writing this? Are ikona, Karl L. and Pinkie Nokia people or externals? What is the purpose of the site: create buzz or establish a 2-way dialogue between the N-Gage team and N-Gage enthusiasts?

It is an official blog, by people in Nokia Tommi. They were the ones who originally showed the 4 concept videos Nokia Design put up on youtube.
Posted by: Stefan Constantinescu | February 6, 2007 12:53 PMlast year sometime i recall visiting something like that site, maybe that one if indeed it existed last autumn. back then it didn't impress me, and i'm inclined to say that future watch gives me buzz wibes more than blog wibes. it simply isn't enough to run blog software and expect the trustworthiness to follow.

Agreed. I firmly believe that (corporate) blogging is too important to be left for dedicated bloggers or marketing departments.
Posted by: Tommi Vilkamo | February 6, 2007 02:18 PMWhat do you mean by dedicated bloggers? Marketing departments I understand.
Posted by: Stefan Constantinescu | February 6, 2007 03:12 PMI meant bloggers who are isolated from whatever the company is really doing. Setting up an isolated "blogger department" or whatever.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's perfectly ok for companies to have isolated blogging exercises. But if you isolate the blogging totally:
- the blogger won't be able to write with an authoritative insider voice
- the feedback might not be heard in the relevant parts of the company
Therefore, I think you need also part-time blogs from the people who are doing the "real work" (e.g. http://jaaksi.blogspot.com/)
Posted by: Tommi Vilkamo | February 6, 2007 03:43 PMIkona has been a moderator on the N-Gage Arena message boards for several years now.
Posted by: krisse | February 6, 2007 03:59 PMI am very exited to see and observe how Nokia's new gaming platform will do. In any event, I think Nokia is light years ahead of the cell/mobile phone competition in terms of figuring gaming out. Their stupid/gourageous original N-Gage and QD was a valuable battleground and may give them the last laugh in the end! :) I must applaud the vision at least - of course for a market leader it is somewhat easier to take such risks, but such risks do not get taken if there is no vision at all left. (770/N800 are another example of the fact that Nokia still has some, no strike that, plenty of innovation in it ;-))
Posted by: Viipottaja | February 6, 2007 08:59 PMHi there, thanks for stopping by Future Watch, i'm one of the authors. We are actually all Nokia internal in the Play New group and Future Watch is a blog to help us engage the community in the run up to launching the Next Generation of N-Gage. I've been writing a blog about marketing and social media for about 3 years at http://blog.experiencecurve.com
