Fring available for S60 3rd Edition (free calls etc.)

3rd party S60 applications - January 30th, 2007 - Written by Tommi Vilkamo

People tell me that Fring rocks. Quote:

fring™ uses your mobile internet connection to make peer-to-peer VoIP calls, send instant messages and talk with VoIP applications such as Skype and Google Talk, at no extra cost.

Nice.

As you can read from the Fring blog, they have now added support for S60 3rd Edition, and even for WiFi. Go try it and send them feedback!

Update: it’s free only if you use WiFi or if you have a flat-fee data plan. If you pay per megabyte, be careful!!

Update 2: Zach has just published a very good review about Fring

Adriano, são edições de software diferentes. o software S60v2, é para telemoveis com a 2ªedição e os S60v3, são da terceira edição.

O N80 é 3ª edição, por isso só aceita softwares desenhados para essa edição.

    Hello!

I just managed to make a video conference call between my E70 and a PC, by using Fring+Skype+Trendcam… Transmitting video and sound from my E70 to the PC…

    Very cool!

I installed Fring on Friday and got it working with another colleague quite quickly (after some initial connection issues relating to APs).

It looks like a very useful app, but it would be nice it it had some options in the application itself, such as changing the ringtone, changing the icons for contacts depending on the protocol, grouping contacts, etc.

It’s a bit sluggish on my E70, but still usable if I need to.

That’s really a smart and quick solution for video conferencing, without much efforts and time.
