May 19, 2006 Where to find apps for S60 3rd Edition? My-Symbian! Posted by Tommi at 02:03 PM | Categories: 3rd party S60 applications

Two months ago I wrote a post with a title "Where to find applications for S60 3rd Edition?", and asked:

Here's a plea for Handango, My-Symbian, Allaboutsymbian, SymbianOne, SymbianGear, and others: please make a separate section for S60 3rd Edition applications. And please, make a separate RSS feed for them. I promise to subscribe immediately :-)

I just noticed that My-Symbian has created a separate section for S60 3rd Edition.

Great!!

...although I'm still waiting for the RSS feed, how about it?

Tommi, great! But which RSS feed? They have one and they are doing a great job of having the 'for 3rd Edition' tag in the subject, so they are easy to spot.

True. I think that My-symbian site and their RSS feed are already great.

But still, I think S60 3rd edition owners are not interested about incompatible S60/S80/S90/UIQ software, and many would appreciate a separate feed. I just thought that if it's easy to implement, why not.

Your call, Michal.

great Tommi !!

Looks quite discouraging. The newest additions: egg timer, parking meter reminder, a few small games. The full listing also has only about two dozen software compared to the few hundred for previous S60 devices.

This IMO shows how it's not just "recompile and it runs" when porting to 3rd edition. Otherwise the list would have lots more software. You need to check many things before the app that used to work just fine with 1.x/2.x crashes all the time with 3.x.

It's truly unbeliavable that Handango still only recognises Nokia N91.

First of all, thank you Tommi for your news and sorry for such a late reply. YES, I will create separate RSS feeds and there will be a separate S60 3rd Edition feed as well. I'll work on it next week so it should be available real soon.

Regarding the availability of S60 3rd Edition software, just give developers some time guys. It's been only two weeks since the date of your comment Symbiatch and the number of apps listed on My-Symbian has jumped from "about two dozen" to 50... What I like the most is that also FREEWARE slowly starts appearing, including the great C2Doom from Markus Mertama. You should really try it on E61's big screen!

As promised in my previous comment, I've just launched separate RSS feeds for each platform.

The general feed including all news for all platforms is available here. S60 3rd Edition feed is here. Series 60 2nd Edition feed is here. All comments and suggestions are warmly welcome.

Thanks Michal!!

In addition to the News feed, also a S60 3rd Edition Forum feed is available now. It shows titles and descriptions of 15 newest threads on our S60 3rd Edition discussion forum. Series 60 v1&2 Forum feed is available as well.
