Nokia and IBM announced yesterday Lotus Notes support to be added to selected Nokia S60 devices. This means that Lotus Notes users are now able to access email with their Nokia devices. This also represents a significant market opportunity for IBM Lotus Notes - which has 140 million licensed users - with many Nokia customers now able to purchase Lotus Notes and access its collaboration capabilities on the go.

In our 3rd edition FP2 new features list I mentioned the Scalable icon support for Java applications.

Java MIDP specification mandates only the support of PNG icons from a device implementation. Nokia Java implementations have thus far supported only bitmap based icon formats, most notably PNG, GIF and JPEG files. Vector graphics based scalable icons provide a lot of benefits over bitmap icons.

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to 43 Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices

Nokia expands the range of devices that enable Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. All Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices, 43 of them, will now feature the Mail for Exchange mobile email application. This makes Nokia’s device range the largest ever to enable the solution chosen by more businesses than any other messaging solution. Mail for Exchange will be available out-of-the-box in future releases of Nokia Eseries and Nokia Nseries devices.
