Mobile Web Server: The future begins now

S60 applications, S60 devices - December 19th, 2008 5 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

As announced yesterday, Mobile Web Server beta is now ready. That’s a bold statement but it only means this particular beta track has reached it’s end and there are no more application releases planned. However it doesn’t mean that you should stop using the application and service, quite the contrary. Mymobilesite.net gateway and portal will remain online so you can continue using your personal mobile site just as before. Lots of effort has been put to fix any remaining [...]

It can be a totally different thing, serving a similar purpose, or vice versa. Don’t limit your imagination too much, if you think it’s even remotely relevant - just throw it in! To get you started you can check out the Mobile Web [...]

Mobile Web Server: New PAMP release

Hints & tips, S60 applications - December 4th, 2008 0 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

Guest post by Johan Wikman:

A new version of PAMP (Personal Apache MySQL PHP) - a Symbian version of the LAMP stack that is used for running some 40% of the websites in the world - has been released. It’s fully compatible with MWS 1.5 and can be installed directly on top of it, after which you have both PHP and MySQL at your disposal. You can even install off-the-shelf content management systems like e107 and [...]

Mobile Web Server: new release 1.5 available!

S60 applications - November 18th, 2008 10 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

It’s that time of the year again, Mobile Web Server 1.5 beta has been released.
Brings easier access rights management, intelligent network handling, improved RSS feeds for effortless sharing and more.
This stuff might sound familiar, because we have discussed those here in the blog and other media. The access rights management page is a personal win for me, it makes life so much easier. Users are still added in the device UI, that’s an architectural feature we couldn’t change anymore.

The [...]

Application tip: SmartConnect available for Eseries

Hints & tips, S60 applications - November 13th, 2008 14 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

One of the nicer features in S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 and later releases is the grouping of Internet access points into logical groups. Based on the available networks and their priorities the platform can choose between the access points and provide an application with the best one at any given time.

I noticed SmartConnect application is now available for E71 and E90 in Download! service (could be others too, please add in comments). This application brings the network grouping [...]

Mobile Web Server Blog archived, but life goes on

S60 applications - October 28th, 2008 6 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

Hi all,

as part of the grand S60 Blogs makeover the old individual blogs were archived, hence there is no Mobile Web Server Blog anymore. You can still find all of the past stories via this link. To follow Mobile Web Server stories, I will be using tag ‘Mobile Web Server‘ for those so you can always find the stories. I am also working with Saara to have a new RSS feed, but I don’t know about [...]

Mobile Web Server: Nokia N96 supported + other news

S60 applications - September 22nd, 2008 11 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

Hi folks!

Keeping up with the latest device offerings, MWS now fully supports Nokia N96 as well. There is a new minor release (1.4.1) available from our Download page. Actually, if you’re a lucky owner of a S60 3rd Edition, FP2 device (Nokia N78, Nokia 6210 Navigator, Nokia 6220 Classic etc.) you might want to update to this release since it corrects some features for those devices. This release works just as well wíth the upcoming Nokia [...]

Your input needed: Mobile Web Server feeds

S60 applications - August 19th, 2008 11 comments - Written by Jukka Eklund

A comment I have heard often is that the content from a Mobile Web Server should be available also via various feeds, to be imported into other services. For Blog entries and Gallery items we have already added these via RSS (see Forum Nokia Wiki for more information). These work for me in Jaiku for example, have you tried the feeds in other services?

One interesting addition would be to add Presence information such as calendar status and location [...]
