April 14, 2008 Scrobbling from S60 Posted by Oren at 08:54 PM | Categories: Application Reviews, Multimedia, Software development

A couple of years ago, I wrote in the S60 Multimedia blog about my initial experiments to build some sort of S60 client for last.fm, that would at least collect information about what you and your friends are listening to. The comments to that post quickly moved on to what was really needed - an S60 client to scrobble (i.e. upload) info about what you're playing to your last.fm account.

As you can see at the end of the comments, the developer community has responded with at least two scrobbler clients for S60. Aspyplayer is a Python scrobbler client that includes its own music player, and uploads your listening history to last.fm as you listen. If you're looking for a non-Python option, there's Mobbler, a native S60 application that stores your history for batch uploading to last.fm.

Thanks to Symbian-guru and larryni.me.uk for alerting me to these latest developments.

Flash Lite 3 is coming to S60...

Flash Lite from Adobe brings Flash technology to mobile phones and consumer electronics devices - with additional features designed to meet the specific needs of mobile phone owners. With Flash Lite on S60, the graphic richness and easy development capabilities of desktop Flash are available on tens of millions of S60 devices. Currently, 33 different S60 devices support Flash Lite, which has been available since S60 3rd Edition. Bringing desktop-like experiences with Flash Lite 3

The S60 platform will soon include the latest version of Flash Lite, Flash Lite 3. With Flash Lite 3 and the Web Browser for S60, you will be able to view Flash animations on Web pages, just like you do on your desktop computer. September 18, 2007 Pro Session Golf now available for download Posted by Phil Schwarzmann at 12:34 PM | Categories: Application Reviews, Multimedia

logo.gifThe S60 app, "Pro Session Golf", which was originally only available on the N93 Golf Edition, is now available for download for 65 euros or $90 US. I interviewed Pro Session Golf's Product Manager, Larri Vermola, last year for the Voice of S60. Nice to see this in downloadable format, now what I'd like to see is this technology used elsewhere. (My tennis swing could use some improvement)

HELSINKI, Finland, September 18, 2007 – Pro Session Golf video analysis application is now available worldwide for several Nokia Nseries devices as downloadable version. Pro Session Golf enables you to capture your golf swing, analyze and improve your game by split screen swing comparison and other advanced analysis methods. The tool was originally developed for tour players and teaching professionals and it was launched in 2006 as European only limited Nokia N93 Golf Edition. Now the success story continues globally on expanded device range. The application is compatible with Nokia’s latest flagship Nokia N95 and it also supports Nokia N73, Nokia N93, and Nokia N93i.

August 29, 2007 Welcome to the latest members of the S60 device family Posted by Phil Schwarzmann at 02:39 PM | Categories: Device Previews, Multimedia

Wow, big day at Nokia yesterday. I just got done watching the big presentation from Nokia's top brass in London. New N-Gage platform, new music service, and three new S60 devices!?! I'm floored!! Although sometimes I wish Nokia could get a spokesperson to show a little more enthusiasm for such an exciting event. And I cringed everytime I heard the words "Series 60" and not "S60". :-)

Fortunately the technology speaks for itself! Check out the latest members of the S60 device family from S60.com - The Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N81, and Nokia N81 8GB...

June 07, 2007 An Evening with S60, tonight in Chicago! Posted by Phil Schwarzmann at 08:19 PM | Categories: Multimedia, S60 Events, S60 News

Today is the day!! I arrived yesterday to Chicago from yesterday, I immediately checked-in to the Intercontinental on Michigan Ave. and walked one block down to the Nokia Flagship Store and met up with store manager Bridget Gibbs and her great staff, all of whom were very excited about tonight. I have no idea how we're going to fit 100+ guests into this store, it's going to be interesting... :-)

I'll be live blogging via Jaiku all night long, add user 's60online' to your contacts to get all the latest, or visit s60online.jaiku.com

Also, I'll be posting photos of the event (via ShoZu) throughout the night to our Flickr site: www.flickr.com/photos/s60online

One last thing, for all you Flickr users attending tonight - If you get a chance, please upload all your photos from tonight's event to our Flickr group: www.flickr.com/groups/s60online

Looking forward to seeing you all there this evening!!
