Nokia expands the range of devices that enable Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync. All Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices, 43 of them, will now feature the Mail for Exchange mobile email application. This makes Nokia’s device range the largest ever to enable the solution chosen by more businesses than any other messaging solution. Mail for Exchange will be available out-of-the-box in future releases of Nokia Eseries and Nokia Nseries devices.

Nokia owners whose companies use Exchange can set up Mail for Exchange for free on their devices in various ways without paying additional services or subscription fees - from the email set-up plug-in on the home screen, by launching the application from the Download! folder, or via the Settings Wizard. Once the application is set up, users utilize their current data plan service to get real-time access to their office email, calendar, contacts, tasks and company directory over a secure connection. Brilliant, but where can I download this feature? There are just a couple of models listed on:

Like it says above: “from the email set-up plug-in on the home screen, by launching the application from the Download! folder, or via the Settings Wizard.”

On the site jesper mentioned I can see 23 models listed, so that site is a bit outdated it seems.

Yes, but that outdated page is the first hit on google. And some people may actually prefer downloading with a regular computer. Why? Costs, speed, the joys of re-installing your applications when things go wrong etc.

The second google hit then… on the mailforexchange.com (what ever that site is about?) you end up on a page which claims to be hacked or something. How? Load the page, click the finnish flag, then “kotisivu”. I’ve sent email about this to the contact address on the page, no reaction.

Anyway, nice to finally have this feature on the N93. Next you could make the Maps work on this device as well.

Yep, let’s hope the Business SW page gets updated soon. Anyhow, you can choose for example N73 and get that version (SIS file for S60 3.0 devices).

As for that mailforexchange.com site, looks like phishing or other crap. I’ll forward that one to somewhere, might be they are violating a trademark there. Thanks for the tip!

I don’t know about Maps stuff, but indeed missing out N93 seems strange since N93i is on the list. Have you tried that version with N93?

Drawing a blank so far on Mail for Exchange for the N80.
As per previous comments not featured in the current Nokia Web content and nothing comming up in the downloads catalog - suggestions please .. or is the announcement all a little premature.
As a side note Mail for Exchange has been avaialble previously for the N80 but support was dropped several releases ago and that release didn’t support the security features of Activesync required for serious business use.

  6. Jukka Eklund wrote

ChrisG, did you try for example N73 download which is available at businesssoftware.nokia.com?

  7. ChrisG wrote

    Thanks Jukka
Yep the N73 version 2.5(5) isn’t compayible with my N80 handset.
In any case as the software notes state:
“Non-Eseries devices do not support the security features that many network administrators enforce. This can prevent Mail for Exchange from synchronizing data to your device. If you think you may be experiencing this problem look in File manager > MailForExchange > admin_log.txt for the text, “This device is unable to implement all requested password policies.” Currently the only solution for this is to reduce the server security requirements.”
Which isn’t much help for serious use.

So .. does the new anouncements regarding Mail for Exchange herald any change in this respect?

This all is good. But there’s a question: when are email folders will be synchronizable? Synch of INBOX only is not enough…

The version that is being press-released is not public yet (2.7.0). It will be possible to install it on any S60 device (3.0, 3.1, 3.2) and will be available in a few weeks.

Businesssoftware.nokia.com is now updated, and has the version 2.7.0 available for download.

2.7.0 doesnt make N95 support the security features that is needed for me to access my companys email… Any news when this will be added to the N-series?
