Quick hat tip to everyone out there who uses the proper "S60" name instead of the old "Series 60". A while back we changed from "Series 60" to "S60", and it seems that virtually everyone in the blogosphere quickly adapted... Everyone except our *own* people!
Last week at 3GSM, I heard so many fellow Nokians (not from the S60 stand of course) using "Series 60" it made my head spin. I also even heard the terms "S40" and "S80" which do not exist. Even our top brass have been known to still use "Series 60" in front of a large audience. (Although I admit, at times I've been caught saying "Series S60", saying "S60" ten times in a row can be a real tongue-twister)
As you can imagine, it can get very frustrating for our marketing and branding team. In my monthly blog usage report I include a quick slide from Google Labs (shown below) showing the terminology search trends.
So big kudos to everyone out there who has buried "Series 60" and uses "S60"! :-)

Comments
I think that maybe since Series 60 was changed to S60 it became the norm to shorten the rest of such as S40 and S80... although I also think that Forum Nokia played a big part in that as well since they reference S40 and S80 in that exact format!

Posted by: Horia Stanescu | February 23, 2007 05:20 PMBTW how do you spell: E-series or Eseries?
Me, I don't care:-)
I believe it's Eseries.
Posted by: Phil | February 23, 2007 07:42 PMseriously, this is the worst post ever. real enthusiasts could care less whether you call it "S60" or "Series 60" or "Mom's Apple Pie". i resent your attempts to shove a new brand-name at us. all i care about are the features and a device which is stable (and one that I can showoff to my friends).
Posted by: blahblah | February 23, 2007 09:36 PMDarla, that's a good point about S40 and S80. If you do a Google search for S40 the first hits are from Forum Nokia.
Posted by: Jukka Eklund | February 25, 2007 08:42 AMHow about a hat tip to the employees in Tampere and Oulo that have walked out from their jobs in protest against the way which in some 700 fired employees have been treated ? It's nice to see that some fellow colleagues care about these 700 people that find themselves on the street without their jobs. While other colleagues go on company paid drinking binges to Barcelona. How about some self-restraint? Wonder when the axe will fall on this little blog?

Well people are certainly free to call it whatever they wish. We were known as "Series 60" for a long time, so it's only natural that people still use that name.
The point of my post was this - All the "real enthusiasts" like you HAVE indeed switched to "S60". It's ironic that it's our own employees who've yet to use the new name. I find it interesting how consumers know the new term, but Nokians do not.
Posted by: Phil | February 26, 2007 01:56 PMI always say s60… Phil, suggestion: in one of your podcasts from 3gsm you mention how much beer you were drinking in Barcelona. Mind cutting that part out of your podcast? Please? Do you not think it's inappropriate to talk about how much you were drinking on a company-paid trip while some of your colleagues were lining up at the unemployment office ? Thank you.
