New features are constantly being developed for S60.com, a few new features went live today...
- "Tell-a-Friend" allows you to recommend a S60 application to a friend. Your friend will be contacted via e-mail with info about that app and a link to find out more info and download a demo. This feature is found in the flash found on the main page.
- You can send an SMS to your phone containing a direct link to our S60 Mobile Site.
- The current and all previous S60.com monthly newsletters are online and available for registered users of S60.com
- When downloading applications via the S60 Mobile Site, you are no longer offered .zip files, the files are first unpacked on the server and sent to you.

This is very cool - the monthly tech magazine, PC Today, featured S60 on the front of their October 2006 cover. The article covers the Nokia E61, Nokia E70, Nokia 6680, and Nokia N71 - it then compares them to Palm, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile. Towards the end of the 8-page article, you get tips for your S60 smartphone like using your device as a modem, multitaksing, and transfering data.
Visit PC Today's website for more info.
Kudos to you all who use the term "S60" instead of "Series 60". When you change the name of your product and re-brand it like we did last year, it's a difficult task encourage everyone to switch names. But you all have done an excellent job and made our marketing team very happy! :-)
Check out these Google Trends below, this measures how popular are the search terms "S60" versus "Series 60" on Google. So not only are web site admins and bloggers using "S60", so are consumers. I had to throw in the word "Nokia" as well, because S60 is also used by Volvo and other companies and it wouldn't give a fair comparison.

When installing an application onto your S60 device via a computer, it first copies the installation file from your computer to the device, extracts it and installs. However, it doesn't necessarily remove that installation file from your device, and worse yet, it often places it on the native C: memory even if you're installing the application to your memory card.
Here's how to remove those installation files and free up some important memory - First off you'll need a file browser such as the free SExplorer or Y-Browser. Or, connect your device to your computer via bluetooth/USB. If you want to do it via Windows...
1. Load up Windows Explorer
2. Look for "Nokia Phone Browser" and select your phone (you must have PC Suite installed)
3. Browse to C:\ -> \Data\ -> \Installs\
4. You may now delete all those files.
...however, there are some reasons why you may not want to remove those installation files. Maybe you want to pass the application onto a friend via the device? Maybe you want to reinstall it later without using the PC?
One important thing to removed though, do NOT remove anything E:\ Data - These are important files your applications have placed there, removing them might cause some applications to stop functioning.
UPDATE: Many thanks to everyone who e-mailed/commented. First off, this is supposedly a bug, the device is supposed to automatically remove these files. The support team is currently looking into this. Secondly, some might notice I changed the instructions above - I originally used an app that's only found on pre-release firmware versions so you probably won't find it on your phone. :-)
Antony Pranada of S60Tips.com just released an updated version of his fantastic 3rd Edition compatible freeware, Screenshot...
Screenshot for Symbian OS is a FREE program to take screenshot on your Symbian OS mobile phones (UIQ or S60). You can capture screenshot and save it to a file in JPEG, BMP or MBM format (the S60 version supports PNG format too). The screenshot can be sent directly to a PC via Bluetooth or infrared and another mobile phone. Furthermore, you can customize the shortcut key, file name and delay of capturing. This new version supports continuous mode that allows you to capture screenshot every a few seconds.

I'm not sure about the other S60 3rd Edition devices, but I know the Nokia E61 & E70 do not allow you to install any apps that don't carry a proper certificate. This is quite confusing for everyone, however there's a simple way to change this...
Goto Tools -> App. mgr -> Options -> Settings. Then change “software installation” from “Signed Only” to “All” and “Onlline certic check” to “Off”.
One of S60 3rd Edition's goals was to beef up security on the device, allowing only signed apps to be installed would help against viruses and other nasty malware. So if you turn this feature off, be careful when installing apps from unknown sources. Check out the e-series blog for more detailed info.

Nokia released a new version of their PC Suite (v6.81) a few days ago. Along with some nicer looking icons and improvements in Nokia Music Manager, there's at least one very important fix that I found. The Backup now works flawlessly on the E61 and E70. Before this release, some people complained it would stall after 1 or 2%. One important thing: When doing a backup, it tends to stay at 99% for quite a while. Just be patient, it should finish soon.
Download it now from Nokia's website.

58% of the global marketshare. Not bad....
