2GB miniSD works like a charm in my Nokia E61

Hints & Tips - April 12th, 2006 - Written by schwarzm

There’s always that bit of uncertainty when you put the largest memory card available in a new-to-the-market device. But the 2GB SanDisk miniSD card (cost me 99 euros) that I just stuck in my Nokia E61 worked like a charm. (Be careful, the Nokia 3250 takes microSD, not miniSD) Installing a new memory card into a S60 3rd Edition device took me just seconds…

1. Insert card - in my E61 I didn’t even have to turn it off or take out the battery.
2. Goto TOOLS -> MEMORY -> OPTIONS -> FORMAT MEM. CARD

Five seconds later it’s ready. Simple!

mmmm, an E61 - I’ve been trying to order one for months now and the ship date keeps getting pushed back. Is it every bit as juicy as it looks?

This falls into the category “wow, it really works as specified” :) Nice to hear, let’s see when there is a 4GB card!

Dr, with 6630 you can have 1GB RS-MMC card. Performance won’t suffer, size of card doesn’t matter. The different standards would be worth a full post!

Dr. Pratik, I’m a bit unclear of your question, could you elaborate?

S60 3rd Edition is using microSD or miniSD (so far), depending on the device.

Ryan - I love my E61. I got “stuck” with it back in February but within a few days I was hooked.

People think it’s so big but they forget that it’s extremely thin, making it, in my opinion, the most comfortable S60 device to carry around.

My only complaint is the lack of a camera. I rarely use the camera, but it’s nice to have on standby. The E61 has gotten a lot of praise so far and probably is the most interesting 3rd Edition device to the public - I would guess that we’ll be seeing a camera version of the E61 very soon (just a guess!).

Phil, Nokia E60 has still RS-MMC so it is not that simple. S60 supports all of them, and products can have the format they choose. Current Nokia intention seems to be moving to SD exclusively.

    does the n80,e70 support A2DP profile ?

  11. Jukka wrote

Dr, S60 has to offer support for all memory cards as different manufacturers make the decision about which cards go in different products. And about A2DP, it is not supported since S60 3rd Edition Bluetooth is v1.2. The next version of S60 will have Bluetooth 2.0 and A2DP.

Now that you have an E61, can you please tell me if there’s a “smart way” to search for contacts? Smart = t9 or first initial of first name + space + first initial of last name. Is there something like that?

My old 9500 Communicator was great. If I was search for someone named “Darla”, I could type in “arla” and it would find it. This isn’t happened on my E61, you gotta type in the first character of the first or last name, any mistakes and it won’t find it.
