When you spend time with S60 users, it becomes pretty obvious what drives the usage from an end-user’s point of view. Of course, things like design, ergonomics etc. have a strong influence but if we concentrate on every day usage, features that make usage more efficient are the ones that users are really looking for. These play a big role in high user satisfaction and desirable user experience. Based on my knowledge about S60 users, the following features are considered wonderful among the users: 1) menu key functionality; 2) copy-paste functions; 3) mark function; and 4) quick activation of silent mode. There are more, I’m sure, but these features are something extraordinary and increase user satisfaction a lot. Unfortunately, every S60 user is not familiar with these. Once most users learn about these, it will be hard to change the platform – with these you’re hooked on S60!

Hi Jesse,
Well, you see, after years and years (since first models of 7650, it was love at first sight, OMG, I’m little sentimental know) of using S60 phones I have slightly different list of important features.
Also I admit that design and ergonomics have a huge influence but also at the same time I’m quite sure that power users just don’t care so much about, design or size, width, height, weight or whatsoever I want to say that we prise features before all and it’s the rule No 1.
Lets go back to the topic, here is the my list:
1.)
The first and most important fact about S60 smartphones or multimedia computers is possibility to expand features over 3rd party software.
2.)
The second one is the multitasking of course, it would be hard to use smartphone without multitasking feature, almost impossible.. ..
3.)
Than probably comes UI personalization (themes, fonts, etc).
4.)
Last but not the least is the famous pencil key and all stuff that comes with it (copy/paste, selecting, marking and so long).
Cheers,

Hi Teo,
I have made same kind of notices with so called power users. However, most of the S60 users are not familiar with these and I believe that multitasking for example could be show stopper to novice users also - People just have to figure it out.
Posted by: Jesse | May 24, 2006 10:21 PMNow i'm really intrigued. I had no idea I could copy and paste and would love to know how to quickly activate silent mode :-)
I just purchased an E60 and, although the manual was very helpful to introduce new features like WLAN access, I'd still love a cheet sheet of 'top S60 features'--especially as this is my 4rth S60 device and I'm starting to wonder what else i've been missing out on all these years :-)
Posted by: Stephanie | May 26, 2006 11:24 PMStephanie: You can copy-paste text by pressing the pen key and then selecting the text you want to copy-paste with the arrow keys. Silent mode is activeted by pressing the #-key for a little longer.
You can find some hints + tips using a S60 phone on the http://www.s60tips.com/ site. Have fun with your E60 :)
Posted by: Maija | May 29, 2006 10:28 AMHi Stephanie,
Just like the Maija said, with longer press on # key you can switch among silent and general profile but only if you haven’t activated line 2 !
Well you know, the pencil key is one if the most used keys on my phone, you can use it for selecting, copying, pasting, marking as well as getting additional features in some applications like message editor.. ..
