I guess it would be best to start off with an introduction of sorts. My name is Antoine RJ Wright and I write for both the Mobile Ministry Magazine and Brighthand websites. For me, exploring mobile technology has always been about connecting with people and exploring the road not-yet-traveled in respects to use. Its with this perspective that I started investigating the Mobile Web Server, and one day decided to download it and check it out for myself. This piece is largely my reflections on it both as a replacement to the Mobile Ministry Magazine website, and my reasons for moving my personal website to MWS despite my antiquated device (compared to newer Nokia offerings).
Some of the new things available in Mobile Web Server 1.3 beta is a set of RESTful APIs. These APIs provide a direct access to some of the device resources, for example to be used from other web services.
Our first APIs have the following features:
- get Presence information from the device such as calendar availability, time and current profile
- send "free text messages" into the phone inbox
The APIs are documented in our wiki. Go start playing, and of course don't forget to submit your results in MWS Challenge there is still time!

Marton has now posted his comments on desktop widgets experience so far. Check it out at Beta Labs blog.

First of all, I hope you have had a great start for this year! Here in Finland it's the darkest time of the year: I saw a statistic that in average the sun was visible about 38 minutes per day in December, can you believe that? The good news is that the days are now getting longer, couple of minutes every day. This week we finally got some long-awaited snow in here as well, though it's now melting away fast..
Many people have made their resolutions for the new year and some have done predictions on what to expect for 2008. As for myself it's been a more quieter time at work so there has been good time to think about the future in a broader sense.
This recent post (item #13) in our Forum Nokia Discussion Board certainly hit home for me. Having a mobile site running on the phone is cool as such, but integrating that into existing or completely new communities and services is the next step. Or what do you think?
I also liked the title of the post since that's one of my favourite episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Happy 20th Anniversary, TNG :)

(2008 logo made with Logo Creatr, thanks!)

Let's try some LazyWeb action: if you are reading this in Indonesia and using Mobile Web Server actively, please get in contact with me (contact details in About page).
Thanks,

I was at Nokia World 2007 and thought I'd share my feelings after the (huge) event. I was busy manning our demo stand for the whole during of the event, so for insight on keynotes etc. better to look elsewhere..

If you go to my mobile site and check out Presence, you will notice we've added a Connection type entry in there (2G, 3G or WLAN). So this entry will definitely be available in our next beta release towards the end of the year.
Now, what would be your ideas for new items to have in there? I know some are pretty obvious choices such as location, but then what to do with that more specifically?
As always, any other ideas welcome too!

We have got some reports about Web Server going into 'Stopped' state without user selecting it. This seems to happen in random circumstances but some users experience it more regularly than others. This shouldn't be happening ie. Web server should tolerate changes in the network (for example loss of data connection) and jump back right up (display 'Running') when data is flowing again.
If you are experiencing this problem, let us know either by commenting to this post or by using our Feedback form. Please include as much as information you can (phone model, network (WLAN/GPRS), your location etc.). With your help we should be able to hunt this thing down and fix it!
Thanks in advance,
-Jukka
Hey, I just realized I need to do the same thing Tommi did a while ago.
What do you think about Mobile Web Server? Do you use it regularly? Why do you use it? Would you recommend it to your friends? What is the best thing about it?
Please keep it short and positive. Thanks in advance for all of you who respond quickly!
(Of course you can also tell us why you don't use it, what is the worst thing about it and why you won't recommend it to your friends but we'll keep those for ourselves :)
