I am leaving office for Christmas, so here goes my holiday greetings to all of you! I want to thank my colleagues, partners and all of who have had interest in our service so far. It's been an interesting "new start" for me personally, and I don't have any idea where this might end up - and that's just fine :)
We will back in 2008, and the first on the plate is naturally our next release (1.2 beta) which has been boiling for a while and will be out soon. To have a sneak peek of what's coming you can take look in our demo site. All of the changes are not visible on the site, but some might..

The Yahoo! PC widget that I demoed already at Nokia World is now available in our portal, Downloads page. Go get it and tell us what you think!
While you are there, check out the other latest news as well.
PS. The other bunch of widgets now in closed beta will be added to Beta Labs early next year.

This is off-topic, but I thought it's just too cool:
Symarctic ExtGPS allows you to use your phone's built-in GPS module externally on laptop via Bluetooth. It is mainly targeted for Nokia N95, E90, 6110 Navigator handsets, allowing you to use existing, more sophisticated GIS applications.
Get it from Symarctic's beta pages.

Let's try some LazyWeb action: if you are reading this in Indonesia and using Mobile Web Server actively, please get in contact with me (contact details in About page).
Thanks,

The Mobile Web Server technology is used in various parts of Nokia as a test and innovation platform. Now one of these projects is ready to make their achievement available for the world: let me introduce My Mobile Site desktop widgets!

This is a collection of small applications ie. widgets running on the PC desktop each serving a purpose: read and send text messages, make a call, browse gallery pictures etc.
The widgets will eventually be available through Nokia Beta Labs, but we decided to do a small closed beta test round with some of you first. Thus 10 volunteers will get a chance to test them out before they go out to a wider distribution. It goes without saying the results of this first external test are very important to us.
How to take part? First, check out the requirements:
Second, send me email (jukka.eklund (symbol) nokia.com) containing the following information:
I will pick the 10 testers in the order of received emails, so act fast!
Update: Got 10 volunteers, thanks for your fast response! Stay tuned..

If you are using N95 (like the majority of our users are) and haven't yet updated your device software via Device software update, I warmly recommend you to do it. The latest update brings something called Demand paging into N95, which increases the amount of working memory (RAM) on the device significantly. This in turn makes running Mobile Web Server even more convenient since there will be even less a chance to get "out of memory" notifications when running multiple applications at the same time. The update also includes battery life improvements as well as other major updates.
Demand paging and other improvements are already built-in in latest devices such as N95 8GB, and indeed the difference is noticeable. I have been using N95 8GB for quite a while now, it's great to see these improvements are brought into the previous model as well!
For advice on how to back up the Mobile Web Server data before updating, see this earlier post.

I was at Nokia World 2007 and thought I'd share my feelings after the (huge) event. I was busy manning our demo stand for the whole during of the event, so for insight on keynotes etc. better to look elsewhere..

If you haven't been surfing our mymobilesite.net site lately now would be a good time: we are launching new things to make the mobsites more social! Read on...
