November 28, 2007 The favourite channel for me is.. Posted by Jukka Eklund at 09:58 AM | Categories: Tips and tricks

Just got this from a colleague:

I have figured out that even being closely involved with Mobile Web Server development, I every now and then need to turn back and start to read our user documentation: the User Guide, the Quick Guide, our book, developer documents at Forum Nokia, or the discussions. This is not because I couldn't use my mobile site, but just to figure out things like 'Oh yeah, that's how to do this in a different way" or "I didn't remember we had this possiblity too". This is somewhat common with this kind of technology with endless possibilities. So far it has been a pleasure to to browse through the manual just for fun, and find new non-used corners such as sharing material with albums, how to set the user rights, using WebDAV etc. So really my favourite channel has become RT FM.

Well said, I think. What's your favourite channel? Or would you like to see a completely new one?

November 16, 2007 Hot news: PHP and MySQL coming to S60! Posted by Jukka Eklund at 08:43 AM | Categories: Announcements

php-med-trans-light.gif

Johan Wikman (father of the original Apache port for S60) writes:

I can now reveal that we at the CCNC conference in Las Vegas in January, 2008 will demonstrate and release what we call the PAMP stack.

PAMP stands for Personal Apache, MySQL, PHP, so yes, the full LAMP stack will be made available for S60 smart phones. In addition, there will be PHP extension modules that provide access to the core functionality of the phone. And on top of PAMP you can basically install any LAMP based content management system. For instance, Drupal can be installed off the shelf.

Yes, a fair amount of memory is needed and it's still pretty experimental stuff, but it runs quite nicely on E90.

How cool is this?

November 14, 2007 Sharing the presence information Posted by Jukka Eklund at 01:13 PM | Categories: Feedback

If you go to my mobile site and check out Presence, you will notice we've added a Connection type entry in there (2G, 3G or WLAN). So this entry will definitely be available in our next beta release towards the end of the year.

Now, what would be your ideas for new items to have in there? I know some are pretty obvious choices such as location, but then what to do with that more specifically?

As always, any other ideas welcome too!

Here is a cool and yet practical application for a web server (like ours) running on the phone. With Contacts Browser Plugin you can make a call by simple clicking on a phone number in a web page. You can also add the number into your contacts or send a SMS to a number. All this without needing to touch the phone!
