Having problems installing Mobile Web Server?

Tips and tricks - October 16th, 2007 - Written by Jukka Eklund

Along with the version 1.1 we now have two SIS packages available in the Download page: Full install and Update. This is because those of you who have already installed version 1.0 might want to keep your existing configuration, content etc. as it is and just update the web server part. If you haven’t got MWS installed or don’t mind starting from fresh you should always go with the Full install.

We have tried to make the installation process as smooth as possible but there are a couple of issues to be aware of, keep on reading.

Problem A: Update from 1.0 to 1.1 fails with a note ‘Uninstall Python first’
Solution A: You need to uninstall ‘Python for S60′ from the Application manager first and then retry. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Problem B: You have removed Python as instructed above but update installation still fails
Solution B: This is an issue with some older S60 3rd Edition devices such as Nokia N80 and E60. If you haven’t lately updated your device’s software it’s advisable to do that and try again (helps with at least N80). If you don’t want to do that right now your best option is to do a Full install instead. If you choose to do that check out next issue first and the backup instructions here.

Problem C: Full install on top of earlier Mobile Web Server fails with error note ‘Update error’
Solution C1: Do an update install instead (and see Problems A and B), or
Solution C2: Uninstall previous installation via Application manager and install again. Important: if you want to keep your existing site content, configuration etc. back up your data folder before uninstalling. Instructions are here.

Hope this helps! If you run into problems comment this post and I will update the instructions. In particular please comment if you had Problem B and mention which device and software version you have (type *#0000# in idle screen.)

I am trying to download the software to my Nokia N95, but the only things that happens is that I get a first line on the screen teilling me that it is doawnloading?

I am not sure if nothing is happening beause not notification, statusbar is showing.

How long should you expect the download to take?

Lars, so you’re downloading the SIS package directly into your phone? This might a while since it’s almost 2MB in size. If it doesn’t work for you, try downloading into PC first and then installing it from there.

I’ve just installed this Mobile Web Server directly to my 6120 Classic via http://download.mymobilesite.bet, and the installation was successful.

But, I can’t run this MWS. in my application folder, there are four MWS applications: MWS, MWSCamera, MWSChat, and MWSBlog. When I opened those applications, nothing happen.

    I need help bro…

@Anat17: Sorry about your problems. We will investigate this further. What is your phone SW version (dial *#0000# to check that)? Did you reboot the phone after installing? Did you install into memory card or internal memory?

    Thanks for responding bro,

    Here is the answer:
    My SW version:
    V 03.70
    25-05-07
    RM 243
    Nokia 6120c (B14.01)

I didn’t reboot my phone after installing

And I install to memory card
