October 28, 2007 Web server stopping by itself? Posted by Jukka Eklund at 08:45 AM | Categories: Feedback

We have got some reports about Web Server going into 'Stopped' state without user selecting it. This seems to happen in random circumstances but some users experience it more regularly than others. This shouldn't be happening ie. Web server should tolerate changes in the network (for example loss of data connection) and jump back right up (display 'Running') when data is flowing again.

If you are experiencing this problem, let us know either by commenting to this post or by using our Feedback form. Please include as much as information you can (phone model, network (WLAN/GPRS), your location etc.). With your help we should be able to hunt this thing down and fix it!

Thanks in advance,
-Jukka

October 19, 2007 What do you think about Mobile Web Server? Posted by Jukka Eklund at 11:52 AM | Categories: Feedback

Hey, I just realized I need to do the same thing Tommi did a while ago.

What do you think about Mobile Web Server? Do you use it regularly? Why do you use it? Would you recommend it to your friends? What is the best thing about it?

Please keep it short and positive. Thanks in advance for all of you who respond quickly!

(Of course you can also tell us why you don't use it, what is the worst thing about it and why you won't recommend it to your friends but we'll keep those for ourselves :)

Having problems installing Mobile Web Server? Posted by Jukka Eklund at 11:43 AM | Categories: Tips and tricks

Along with the version 1.1 we now have two SIS packages available in the Download page: Full install and Update. This is because those of you who have already installed version 1.0 might want to keep your existing configuration, content etc. as it is and just update the web server part. If you haven't got MWS installed or don't mind starting from fresh you should always go with the Full install.

We have tried to make the installation process as smooth as possible but there are a couple of issues to be aware of, keep on reading.

October 12, 2007 Devicescape rocks Posted by Jukka Eklund at 08:35 PM | Categories: Tips and tricks

It was already a way back Devicescape announced they are supporting S60 but now I read it's going to be bundled offering for Nokia Nseries and Eseries devices. It's already available for download at Devicescape site. I've tried it briefly and it seems to rock!

So how does this relate to Mobile Web Server? Once you have it set up on your device, you can set up also Mobile Web Server to use it's Internet access point and thus your MWS will always automatically use whatever WLAN network you have available. If you have one at work, possibly some free hotspots at city and one at home your mobsite will be accessible all the time without needing to use GPRS data that might be a cost issue if you don't have a flat free plan.

I tried this very briefly so if you start to use it share your experiences! Also there might be other similar solutions available, let us know if you have tried something and it worked.

October 11, 2007 Using Mobile Web Server over ad-hoc WLAN network Posted by Jukka Eklund at 04:33 PM | Categories: Tips and tricks

Aron asked a good question ie. is it possible to use the Mobile Web Server locally via ad-hoc WLAN network. This way two (or more) devices sharing the same WLAN network can talk directly to each other without all traffic going through Internet (as in Mymobilesite.net service).

My friend Juha here kindly wrote it down for you, keep on reading.

October 08, 2007 New release is coming.. Posted by Jukka Eklund at 10:36 AM | Categories: Announcements

We are right now finalizing the next release of Mobile Web Server which will include a new version of the S60 application and some enhancements to the Mymobilesite.net site as well. I am pretty excited to get this out since it's been brewing for quite a while.

There will be a couple of new applications (or features how do you like to call them) and you can take a quick peek at my mobile site to see them.

Once the new release is out you will be the first to know and I'll explain the new stuff in full detail.

PS. If you have feedback about our current 1.0 version feel free to comment or send me email (details in the About page). However might be a good idea to wait a while for the new release and try that out.

October 05, 2007 Blog is open Posted by Jukka Eklund at 01:58 PM | Categories: General

qgn_mws_app_icon.jpg

Here it is, a brand new blog dedicated to Mobile Web Server. This blog is the place to check out for everybody who is interested in Nokia's Mobile Web Server project. We will share insight on the product, new features, what will the future look like - you name it. You are able to take part in shaping this concept to its full fruition - whatever that might mean.

Mobile Web Server, that is a real Apache HTTP server running on your S60 device, is pretty unique and novel concept. But what should I do with it? We offer some basic applications such as access to camera, contacts, calendar and your own blog which are great for starters but we don't expect them to be enough for everybody. This is when the true power of this concept comes into light: by using some familiar web technogies such as Apache and Python and making it work together we have created a platform that's very easy to expand and tailor to any need you might have. This blog will be a hub of information for all parties involved whether you are a happy (or unhappy) end-user, developer, researcher or in my case the product manager trying to figure out which way to drive the thing.

So without further ado, welcome and let's start :)
