A console for all occassions
The Console view may be one of the most overused views in Carbide. So we know a lot of information is output to the Console view, but did you know there are at least 10 different consoles to look at? I didn’t know until I started to add their names to the Console view page in the Carbide manual.
Above is a sample of the Console view for the C-Build console which is output from the Carbide build system. Others are available from the right-most icon called Open Console. In Carbide 1.3 the list looked like this:

In Carbide 1.3.1 we’ve revamped the names to make them easier to understand and link them to options in the various launch configurations. Wording for those same options have also been revised to clarify the various outputs. For example, in the Emulator Debugger tab these options have been renamed:
- View process output –> View program output
- Show debug trace messages –>View emulator output
- Show Windows system messages –>Show Windows system messages
Okay, so not all of them were changed. However, setting the option View program output in the Emulator launch configuration now sends output to the console called Emulation Program Output. So, the revised Open Console menu options now look like this:

If I was in a TRK launch configuration the options for output and communication remain the same but a different console page recieves the output. Can you guess which one? If you guessed TRK Program Output buy yourself some dessert for lunch, you deserve it.
Ok, so now you see how a launch configuration option links to a specific console output. Now, with so many to choose from, how do you see the one you want? Easy, click the Display Selected Console icon and choose from the list of currently available console views. If the Display Selected Console icon is disabled that means that there are no active console outputs to show.

As you can only have one Console view open in a perspective, being able to change what is shown is important.

Nice update - thanks.
