Filter out the noise
Watching some of my colleagues work and seeing come comments from our users, I believe a common and very useful UI feature in Carbide is often overlooked. I’m referring to the structured viewer filter. Many views and dialogs in Carbide have filter fields that can be used to narrow down a view full of data to display only the data you are interested in.
In a previous post, Tim suggested using CTRL-Shift-R to bring up the “Open Resource” dialog which can be used to find any file in your workspace. There is a filter field in this dialog, as well as in the CDT “Open Element” dialog that works at the language level. By the way, for those of us who can’t easily remember keyboard shortcuts, these dialogs can be found in the “Navigate” menu.
It can often seem like a daunting task to find exactly the right setting in the Preferences window. Recently, a user asked how to change the tabs preference in the editor. Opening up the Preferences window and typing “tabs” in the filter field, gets you there without having to pore through all the settings.

There are filter fields all over Carbide. Whenever you see them, you can use them to narrow your search and filter out all the things you are not interested in.
