June 21, 2006 Migrating from CodeWarrior to Carbide.c++ Q&A Posted by Markus Ahonen at 09:35 PM | Categories: CodeWarrior, FAQ, General, Product releases

As we prepare to release Carbide.c++ v1.1, now is a good time to go over some questions that have been popping up in various forums. There'll be an official FAQ posted on this topic, but I figured I could cover some relevant questions right away. Let me know if something is not covered.

Q: When will Carbide.c++ Developer / Professional Edition be available?
A: September 2006.

Q: What does the product cost?
A: Developer Edition costs €299, Professional Edition costs €1299. Both come with a year of free product support.

Q: Is there an upgrade discount for CodeWarrior users?
A: Yes, if you have CodeWarrior for Symbian OS v2.8 or later. This will allow you to buy Carbide.c++ at 50% of MSRP (--> Developer Edition 150€, Professional Edition 650€). If your support contract has expired, now would be a good time to renew it, at the Forum Nokia eStore.

Q: I have CodeWarrior Personal Edition. When I upgrade to Carbide.c++, which product do I upgrade to?
A: Carbide.c++ Developer Edition v1.1. If you want, you can also purchase an edition upgrade (from Personal to Professional Edition) so you can take advantage of the additional features of Professional Edition

Q: I have CodeWarrior Personal Edition, but I'd like to upgrade to Carbide.c++ Professional Edition. What kind of a discount do I get?
A: Email sales.carbide@nokia.com -- They'll get you a quote

Q: How do I purchase a copy of Carbide.c++?
A: It'll be available on Forum Nokia's eStore. The store has its quirks because it supports all kinds of Forum Nokia products (like support tickets) so it requires you to be a Forum Nokia member -- other than that, though, the purchase process works ok and it'll also allow you to manage all CodeWarrior and Carbide.c++ licenses from the same UI. I'll need to post more on that at some point...

Q: On-device debugging is available already with CodeWarrior Professional Edition. I'd like to buy CodeWarrior so I can take advantage of this feature immediately -- but I don't want to buy CodeWarrior now and then pay full price for Carbide.c++.
A: For anyone purchasing a CodeWarrior product as of June 1st, the cost of upgrading to Carbide.c++ Developer Edition will be 75€, while upgrading to Professional Edition will be 325€.

Q: Where do I go for Carbide.c++ support?
A: Same place as CodeWarrior. Here's a good starting page. It's officially for CodeWarrior, but a lot of the links apply for Carbide.c++ as well.

Q: Ok, so I'm going to buy the product. When to I have to pay more money?
A: When your 1-year support contract expires, or when there's a new major release. While your support contract is actice, you're entitled to free upgrades within the same major release (e.g. 1.1 --> 1.2 is free).

These are the few questions I came up with (and that we already have a clear response to); please let me know what else I should address and I'll post it here if possible.
