Report of the Week for Week 8

Consumed by S60 - May 23rd, 2008 - Written by Daniel Shugrue

Last week we asked to see pix of what our S60 Ambassadors were reading. We got some interesting submissions, our favorite was from Pablopoo in Chile:

22-05-2008 - Share on Ovi

***Update****This week’s tag is “Door9″. Looking forward to the strangely eclectic and sometimes ordinary world of doors out there. **** *****

We had another record week for report submissions, but our favorite came early in the week from mcpezza, still our number 1 Ambassador. He covers it all in this report — direct, to the point, what, where, and when, plus mention of Share *and* the S60 Ambassador program. BTW does everybody out there already know about the ability to post iTunes files on Ovi? Here’s the report:

One of my colleagues at work takes the train down to Cornwall at the weekends to visit his family quite often. He’s just got hold of an iPod and he was talking about converting movies to put on there to watch on the 4 hour journey. He seemed pretty stoked about having found some easy software to convert .avi to iPod compatible files, until I asked him what the point was in taking a general format and turning it into a proprietary one. Showed him how with the N95 and S60 I can take a standard file and use a couple of different players to watch it. Then moved on to MobiTubia, GMail and the rest to show how he could kill time easily on the train with an S60 device. Asked him how he shared his photos from up here with his family in Cornwall, and got the answer that he “sometimes takes them down on a CD” if he remembers. Took that opportunity to show him Ovi, and explain that it’s a great way to combine images and video, and target them to different people - having one channel for his friends, and one for his family for example. Told him that a lot of this stuff had come to my attention from the S60 community, and from the S60 Ambassador programme that I’m a part of. Used it as an analogy for how open the S60 O/S is - people are always looking to solve problems and help each other!

Thanks mattwpbs (and sorry mcpezza, i had been reading your reports and had you on the brain)…for your efforts we’ll be sending out an N82 loaner. Enjoy, and keep those reports coming!
