I am sure it is a very interesting device! But… what are the differences (advantages) between this device and iPhone or Android? :-O

PS: I own a E65, and when I buy songs at Nokia Music Store, I try to send them to my device, but it shows me an error message, saying that it is protected by certain terms bla bla bla.. If I BUY the songs, why can’t I listen to them on my mobile phone? Come on… And is this going to happen with 5800 too?

    @ MAISON CHAPLIN:

to be very precise, i’ll point out the biggest differences that 5800 has:

    - screen with more resolution (16:9 aspect ration)
    - best of its kind stereo loudspeaker
    - 3.2 auto focus camera
    - replaceable user memory card and battery option
    - drag n drop files (no file transfer software is compulsory; like itunes)
    - symbian OS (best)

sorry i have no info about the downloaded songs, maybe someone else will guide you

thanks n let me know how was ur experience with 5800

I’m pleased that I have purchased the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It opens up a new dimension in S60 UI and operations. I enjoy using the new device.

The only drawback at the moment is the lack of new software support. With my previous N78 phone, I used to:
    - view Excel spreadsheet
    - read Newspaper using iSilo
    - keeps my password with HandySafe
    - read company e-mail with Nokia Mail for Exchange

However, these applications are no longer compatible with the new device. I really hope that the developers can keep up the pace and release the software for Nokia 5800 in time.

I think there are also other users like me looking around for S60 5.0 compatible application.
I hope that a specific category can be created at s60.com to promote the new OS variant.

Ivan, I hear your pain as 5800 user myself. I hope this is just a early adopter disadvantage and developers update their applications soon for 5th Edition and Touch. For Mail for Exchange you can already find a compatible version at businesssoftware.nokia.com and should be visible on Download! folder as well.

    @ MAISON CHAPLIN:
The Nokia E65 doesn’t appear to support Windows Media DRM where as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic does, I suspect this is the reason your Nokia Music Store tracks don’t transfer.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is not targeted to compete directly with the iPhone although it does have some features the iPhone lacks. Given the forthcoming Symbian Foundation and opensource S60 comparisons with Android will in the future perhaps become more relevant.

I heard about a countdown Nokia has started a few days ago.. Is it because of NOKIA MUSIC STORE?

  8. Saara Bergström wrote

Hi Carlos — the countdown was because of this: http://blogs.s60.com/2008/12/meet-the-nokia-n97 :-)
