Sorry, but I cant upgrade, uninstall error, and i cant uninstall manually Python 1.3. any heelp!

  2. Jukka Eklund wrote

Stop the server first, and then try installing again. Have you updated Python yourself? If so first remove all Python packages manually.

Hello, I’d like to be able to direct a sub-domain of my domain to my mymobilesite.net site. Is this possible?

I know that I could make a page that sends a 301 or 302 HTTP message, but I’d like it to use my domain while navigating the site.

As an example, Google App Engine has support for this where a CNAME record to ghs.google.com. is made.

Good work! Installed last night, and got my GPS location via the REST API. Would be really good to know a little more about mymobilesite.net. I notice the .com domain is taken by someone else so I’m assuming this is almost alpha software and Nokia have no firm plans for taking this forward? Fingers crossed.

Would be good to have an API for mymobilesite, so that I could discover other mobile web server? Also really interested to learn how scalable this is? how many connections can a MWS N95 take? I figure it is the network connection which is the bottle neck? Good Job.

Update Didn“t work with python 1.4.4

    My setup was:
    MWS 1.3 @ drive D
    python 1.4.4 @ drive C
    pips @ drive C

    Updated to drive D-

how can I install pips, openc and python @ drive C and MWS @ drive d?

  6. Pablo wrote

Drive D is E (mass storage). Sorry.

I moved the data folder. I did a clean install and works, but if I restore the old data folder (previosly upgraded to ver. 1.4) dont work.. maybe something mess the DB or config files.

    Hello Jukka!

BIG congratulations to you and the Team!

It works great! What great, FANTASTIC!

Have a nice summer vacation. Maybe in August you could tell how to do the web server island mode with ad-hoc WLAN… if it is possible…

    Thanks & Regards!
    Aron

p.s.: I got the amazing feeling today again - after installing the server quickly and conveniently - that my E70 is REALLY a pocket computer.

    You rule! :-)

    JEAH !
Great to hear and see at you are working hard for NWS.
Location REST API was very unstable in my E90 in older version, it got too often NaN location…

I’m just installing new version, and hope to see great better working software.

  9. Jukka Eklund wrote

@Andreas: That is not possible with the beta service. You have to do some kind of re-direct.

@Rob: With the beta service we went with the domain mymobilesite.net because it seems more relevant. This is beta software and service, and quite mature as such. For future plans it depends on findings from the beta program, that you can also affect yourself by using the service and telling your friends too :)
There are no absolute numbers for the scalability on the device end, obviously it depends on device and network being used. HTTp requests are served one at a time, since HTTP server is running in single-threaded mode, so there is at least one bottle-neck.

There are no APIs for mymobilesite.net as such, you can find all of the existing APIs (including RSS feeds at http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Mobile_Web_Server_APIs).

@Pablo: Your problem is probably caused by having the updated Python before installing MWS. Please remove all MWS, Open C/PIPS & Python packages, after that you can install MWS into the memory card (and Open C & Python will go to C always).

@Aron: Thanks, that is nice to hear :)
@Sami: ‘NaN’ result is coming from Nokia’s SUPL server (network-based positioning) we just pass it forward. If there is stability problems with that there is nothing we can do. Also, have you updated your E90 to the latest software? MWS 1.4 can also use GPS positioning.

    hallo Jukka,

update was very easy and MWS is working great! Thank you!

At first i try to update direkt by using my E90. On “mymobilesite.net/download” - the site that is showing by using (Informationen anzeigen) “show info” in options-Menue at the phone.
On the site are two adresses. The first to enter in the mobile device’s browser has no link. Means i cant klick it to open the Link.
So i tryed to type it in and than it shows me “Downloading Mobile Web Server 1.4 beta…” but nothing happends. I dont know why.

So i used the second (klickabel) Link with my PC and installed with PC Suite.

This way is working and i test the new MWS.

At first i see, that the Prog-Symbol is moved to the standard folder “Installationen”. No Problem to move it back to my own folder.
Can it be the reason that my first tryed update dont work, becouse i use a self createt folder to store the symbol for MWS?

The second i see was, that the status message for the offline page is now showing allso on ONLINE-Page. My Status message i used to tell the visitors in german language, that my page is offline and they can kontakt me to tell so i can start the server.
Now my message isnt true every time my server is online.
Is there a way to correkt that. I wish that the message will ony displayed if my site is off, so as in older version.

Next i tryed the new remotestart feature. Hey, that is great!!
That i can start the server from a PC - if the MWS-Prog is runing and server is stopped - is very nice! But thats not all. I can start the server even if the Prog dont run!
That needs to register the phonenumber and i think it works via SMS. Right?
Now is the question how pays for the sending of SMS to start the server?

How ever, to remote start the server is very helpfull and the GPSbased location feature shows my friends where i am, whitout costs for me. (yes, i start the server only if i have a wifi-connektion at home, at work ore at my friends whith flatrate. I am happy !

  11. Jukka Eklund wrote

Scotty: I don’t know what is wrong with the download link, it works on my E90. About the status message, you are correct we have changed the meaning of offline message into more generic status message. Maybe we should have both, like you suggest.

Nokia pays the SMS costs associated with remote start feature. Thanks for your feedback!

Good work! Like the new features!
Love the mobile theme. Is it possible to have the web server detect if a mobile phone is browser the website or a normal PC? It would be great to automatically display the mobile theme to mobile viewers and one of the others to PC viewers.

Unfortunately, I can’t get the position feature to work. In the 1.3 version I did get a GPS fix, but in this version, the network based position fix does not appear to work. Keeps telling ‘unknown coordinates’. Is there something special i have to do or set? Did’t try the GPS fix yet, but will do so soon!

    Keep up the good work!

  13. Jukka Eklund wrote

@Ralf: Nope, detecting the browser is not implemented. I agree it would be a nice feature, let’s think about that. All you developer folks can think that as a challenge too :)
The network-based positioning doesn’t always work, it depends on your location. In theory after you get a normal (A)GPS fix on your location, the network-based positioning should be able to locate you as well (provided the cell-id stays the same).

    Thanks for your comments :)

Been playing around with this for a few days on my N95, it is great fun must be said. But a shame that you can only attach pictures to blogs taken by the phone camera and not the screenshot application I have installed. I assume this is done due to potential copyright issues if you open up the gallery for anyone to look at? Still, no biggie. :)

    Hi,
can you delevop it for s60 2nd edition?

I’ve installed the Mobile Web Server. After installation of Quake for Symbian, PIPS 1.2 and Step Counter, the webserver doesn’t run anymore. Any ideas?

  17. Raphael wrote

Ops…. Remove first and reinstall resolve the problem.

  18. Jukka Eklund wrote

@Antonio: I’m sorry but no. MWS is quite advanced application that needs S60 3rd Edition capabilities.

  19. Dean wrote

I’ve got MWS 1.4 running on my N95, fw 2.1 but have no luck with location. I can only assume that the “SUPL” server cannot map my cellids (Sydney, Australia) to usefull lat/long.
Any chance on providing the Python source code for the location module so that I can experiment/modify it.
    thanks

  20. Jukka Eklund wrote

Dean, can you get your location via network in Nokia Maps? To check this, disable all other Location methods in settings but Network-based. MWS depends fully on S60 SUPL implementation, if it doesn’t work for a reason or another, then MWS doesn’t get the location. The Python source code is not available, at least not for now, but rest assured there is nothing to fix there since it just bypasses the information from S60.

  21. Dean wrote

    Hey Jukka,
thanks for your reply, I did as you suggested but still couldn’t get in where I live but got it working in other areas and it’s great.
I got inspired and implemented a MWS Gears extension (while we are waiting for google/nokia to do a proper S60 plugin). You can see it in action at http://beta.mobilised.net/gears/index.html

    hallo Jukka,

on juli 4. i tryed the remotestart feature and told you that it is great. Frmom than i used it sometimes if i forget my phone at home and need to look on my kontakts. Thats very helpfull.

Today the remotestart does not work. I dont know why. The remotestart-setting in MWS is aktiv. And i get a SMS but MWS dont start.
The “…mymobilesite.net/…” show the Message “Remote Start request is pending…” but nothing happend.

If I Start the MWS on the Phone, the Message turns to “Your mobile site is connected to the Internet!
You can Stop the server in My Settings.”

To stop the server remote is working.

I dont know if i changed other settings on the Phone (e90) and tryed some things but i cant find the problem.

    Please can you help me?

  23. Teet wrote

Hey I can’t the remote start working either. Having E51 and tried many times. But I can easily turn off MWS remotely. What can be wrong?

  24. Jukka Eklund wrote

Scotty, Teet: Please try again now, there has been some problems in SMS sending. Also make sure you have set your mobile phone number correctly and received a confirmation message before trying remote start.

  25. Scotty wrote

    Hallo Jukka,

i tryed again, but no changes.
    I get the SMS
“//MwsBioMessage [...] This is Remote Start request from mymobilesite.net. This is save to delete.”

    but MWS does no start.

I am sure that my phone number is correktly. Becouse i get the SMS.

I have stored the old, first confirmation-SMS and tryed to confirm again. It says “mobilesite.net phone number alredy verified”.

    What can i do?

  26. Jukka wrote

Scotty, have you turned Remote start On in the settings? Sorry this might be a stupid question, but I can’t think of anything else right now.

  27. Scotty wrote

    Hallo Jukka,

i sometimes overlooked a simple mistake. It is perfectly OK to ask me. But the setting is ON.

This are my settings in MWS
(I translate into English, as well as I can)
    Name: catch.mymobilesite.net
    Password: “is set”
    Connektionpoint: Ask me
    Connektiontyp: Ask me
    Roaming-Warning: ON
    Remote-Start: AKTIV
    Auto-Start: OFF
    Connection Filter: OFF
    Connektion-Limit: OFF
    Battery Charging Border: 15 %

I rather suspect the error in the settings of the phone. Is there a setting in the phone (e90) what the correct processing of the specific SMS could be avoided? I think of Cell Broadcast or some settings for SMS that i do not understand.

Thanks for the effort so far.
