   Great post, and thanks for the heads up on the firmware. I hate to be ‘one of those guys’, but I’m wondering if the N95 series will also get an update to include Geo-tagging, specifically the N95-3, which is in dire need of a firmware update, anyways, to catch up with the rest. That would mean that every N-series with GPS built in would have the geo-tagging ability, and would, in my opinion, complete the update while pleasing as many people as possible. Thoughts?

   Hi Ricky, Sorry I don’t have any information to share about N95 firmware updates. Those of you with N95’s that want to try Location Tagging the Nokia Location Tagger can be downloaded from Nokia Beta Labs today to tag the location where a photo is taken, but from reading your blog you already knew that.

   And also just another quick question, a friend of mine says that only n95 and n95 8gb will get fl3 support as they are aimed at vid/music market, the n82 is aimed at camera ppl… and hence no plans for fl3 support for it.. my question to you on this would actually be what do you think? can this statement be considered a valid point? cheers.

   Hi Sid and ax, Good questions and I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying your N82 and looking forward to the Location Tagging feature in the next firmware update. But I don’t have any info to share about Flash Lite updates or S60 Widget availability. Just have to wait and see when more information becomes available.

   PS Sid: I know you must be excited about the new features, but take it easy on the Post button. I’m sure you didn’t mean to post your comment 3 times. =)

    Hi Kevin.. I wondering that the N82 don’t support rar files.. It is not possible to download rar files with the build in browser.. Can you ask them if they will fix that next ?

    sorry for posting it all but well i have just envisioned something to relate it to this blog here - since we are talking of the n82 firware update features anyway … so here goes my muse: since its gonna change the way the internet is accessed for the purpose of news (err.. rich news and more richer sites kinda stuff) as well as all that which makes it a Multimedia phenom (tested as we all know) , shouldnt you think the Flash lite 3.0 and widget compatibility update is just worth it to make it even better ? (grin)

    Crossbow, I agree with you, I think the Browser should be able to download anything the user wants. But the current situation is, the S60 Browser will only download filetypes that are supported by the device and I don’t know when this will change. One work around, if you put that Rar file you’re trying to download in an enclosure tag of an RSS feed you can use the Podcasting application to download it.

    Sid, I do agree that Flash Lite 3 and S60 Widgets add some great new functionality. But I still don’t have any info to share as far as them coming to the N82 via a Firmware update.

    Good afternoon. Prompt me how it is possible to save the battery on nokia n82? And that to sit down very quickly. If to not call anywhere and sometimes to look time suffices only at 14 o’clock. In what there can be a reason??? Thankful in advance.:)

    Wipe out all embedded / hidden EXIF metatag information from your phone photos before sending them out or posting it on the Internet! Photo Detagger removes the tags without damaging the photos and in the process even reduces the size of the JPEG photos by about 3-5 KBytes as well.

    Any news on the planned release date of the new firmware? How is work going on?
    I know we are still in Q1, however I travel to australia at the beginning of next month. Is there still any hope that there is a public firmware version with tagging feature released by then?

    Alex, the new firmware is progressing well and still on target. In fact it’s mostly complete already. Sorry I don’t know of a planned release date. A few more things are being done before the release, but it will be made available soon.

    Tea Vui Huang, don’t worry saving GPS Location Tags is an optional setting. Turn it On when you want Location Tags, Turn it Off when you don’t want to save Location Tags.

    Kevin!!, this might interest you and everyone who is waiting : i have gotten hold of the complete official n82 black datasheet with the new firmware, with integrated geotagging and flashlite 3 support !! yes flashlite 3 support check it out!! on my site; http://www.sidfire.com/n82_black_datasheet.pdf this is awesome news as we all wanted! which also means that n82 silver users will soon have all these features in the new firmware upgrade as well! (once the n82 black starts shipping to end users) :)

    R200 and Eugene, you’re right the new N82 firmware wasn’t released within Q1. There were a couple of unexpected delays but the firmware will be released soon. I want to apologize to you, the loyal users and fans of S60 for this lateness..

    Now that the bad news is out of the way there is some good news. Of the improvements and updates in the new N82 firmware, two of the big new features in the update are an upgrade to Flash Lite 3 and the ability to install S60 Widgets (Web Runtime Applications)! Flash Lite 3 lets you watch flash videos directly from the S60 Browser (for example, Youtube). S60 Widgets lets developers take advantage of the powerful and yet easy to utilize AJAX support of the Web Runtime environment. Combine these features with GPS Location Tagging built into the Camera and you’ve got an awesome set of new features coming to the N82 in the next firmware.

    Already sold my N82 and bought a SE p1i. Its a nice toy but when the N82 firmware will show up i will surely switch back. hopefully before xmas

    Thanks for your posts and support here. I must say though, that Nokia is pushing me more and more away towards purchasing a very simplistic device and switching my iPhone from a work phone/sometimes used device to an every day device. The N82 is a great phone, but the software is terribly slow, it is not necessarily buggy but I don’t bother to use some things because it takes forever for them to start. Have you tried the camera? It’s start up time is nothing less than aweful, and the image quality is not that great as well, unless you like your photos with a slight green tint. I simply do not expect this from a phone costing this much. While the iPhone lacks many of the features of the N82, the features that it goes have perform exceedingly well. I traded up to the N82 from the N81 and to be honest there is not really a performance or better experience. This will probably be my last Nokia.

    I beg to differ with what Don has just commented. I myself have been a long term s60 user and can say my experience with my n82 in hand as the device thats an evolution of everything there has been..in terms of speed, performance, features, etc etc , i am very happy with the product and so for sure many n82 users just a thought, not necessarily trying to generalise , but i understand different people have different views but i stand to oppose your view on the N82 dear Don.

    That what opinions are all about. You have yours and I have mine. No problem there. To date, I am underwhelmed by the N82. I have been a Symbian user from the early days as well. I have had a plethora of Psion devices, the original Communicators ( I still have my Saint lapel pin), and all the Communicators in between. I have had various E-Series, and N-Series as well. I was really expecting a major performance revolution moving from the N81 to the N82, but at best it is an evolution. For me, the N82 is marginally better performance wise than the N81. Hopefully the coming f/w upgrade will make the difference.

    I forgot to add the “smiley” face after the “Saint” lapel pin comment. As you can see, I have a hard time letting go of the past. I have what I call “The Draw of Much”. In there you will find iPods, phones, electronic this and thats.

    Anyway back to the N82. It has much potential, and I do like it over the N95 I had for sure.

    Sid, Sorry I can’t comment on the reasons for the firmware delay.

    Don, I agree with you that some applications do open and respond a bit slowly and it would be great if some of these slower applications would open and respond faster. Along with adding new features, speeding up the applications is certainly one of the things S60 is working on to improve the experience for customers such as yourself.

    As for your comment about the camera and photo quality. I agree that photo quality of the photos from N81 tend to be on the lower end, but iPhone photos aren’t that much different in my opinion. N81 and iPhone both have 2 Megapixel cameras but N81 has an LED flash that provides some light to improve lighting conditions. As for comparing the N82 to these 2, the photo quality from the N82 is much better and the speed at that photos can be captured is faster as well. The N82 has a 5 Megapixel camera and a Xenon flash, that flash really improves photos in dim light conditions.

    The geo-tagging feature of my N82 has a problem. The GPS information in the EXIF of the images is consistently off by about 30meter, while the Nokia Map and Sport Tracker work perfectly accurate. Any in sight in the problem?
