I just found out about this sweet little app and am posting the info before we’ve tested it on all the compatible devices. But it seems to work great on both N95 and N95 8GB, so I’m sharing it right away.
Devicescape.com works like a charm for all my “personal” WiFis APs … I setup the APs on the devicescape website and configured all my N95 Internet apps (Podcasting, Browser, etc.) to use the “Devicescape” access point by default. Whenever an app needs a connection, it auto-magically connects to the currently available WiFi - no fiddling around with settings anymore, no “Always ask”needed. Very neat 
Apparently it also works with commercial WiFis that require a login, but I haven’t tried that, yet.
How do you do it?
1. Install the Devicescape application (http://www.devicescape.com) on the N95
2. Create an account on the devicescape website and add all the WiFis that you want to use to your profile (incl. WEP/WPA key settings, etc.)
3. Setup the Podcasting application to use the “Devicescape” access point by default
4. Now every time Podcasting needs a Internet connection it will automatically connect to the currently available WiFi network, without you having to change the settings or selecting the access point manually. This works for manual or automatic downloads.
This is especially helpful for Podcasts which have links to their website from their RSS to view/add comments or when a text enclosure requires the user to connect to a browser to view.
5. Of course, the “Devicescape” access point is available for all applications in the phone (Nokia Music Store, Browser, Maps, eMail, VoIP,, etc.)

Hi there, I found this app about a month ago. I do am really concerned about the sensitive data that I am publishing online. Even when I use the wifi point for private/personal use only, I am posting my home wifi webkey, including the position of the router! I choose not to use the app, because I don’t like this data online.
I posted this topic on their forum, and ofcourse they reply it is save. I wonder how save is it, and what nokia thinks about it. http://forum.devicescape.com/index.php?topic=226.0

So here’s an OT question, but where does one post feedback about the Nokia Podcasting application?
For me it’s a killer app, however there are a small number of essential features which are missing.
Oddly enough, at least one of those features is included in the Nokia Audiobook reader.
I wonder what the user experience will be like when each of these apps provides slightly different features and works in slightly different ways.
Hello, is there an application doing this - connecting to WLAN accesspoints automatically - from the accesspoint definitions already in the phone and without sending data from the device? Acctually how does it send the data? SMS or pocket data?

@aron. devicescape doesn’t use sms or something like that. You have to sync your phone with the accespoints that you posted on your devicescape profile. Next your phone will remember these points. (so technicly you have to use a different accesspoint than devicescape one more time)
there is an application that does not require to post your webkey’s in a webpapp. the app is called Birdstep, but in my knowledge that one isn’t freeware.
hopefully someone can post a client wlan manager. nokia has wlan groups(?) on their phones, but they do not seem to work. you often can’t select a group, the wlan group should be visible as a default accespoint.
@jeroen, it’s up to each individual to decide who to trust, no different to other server based services.
About WLAN groups, S60 3rd Edition FP2 has IAP groups that can contain WLAN and GPRS access points and it should work automatically.

I love podcast app, and using it over my gsm connection. (my E70 will not connect to our offce wifi (WPA1 WPA2, RC4 (TKIP) AES)) I usually select couple of podcasts I want to listen for downloading and leave it overnight. (I have an unlimited data plan) The problem I noticed is that usually the download gets stuck at some percentage. I have to then retry manually till the download is finished (ie when ever I wake up at night I check the phone to see if any download is stoppped :).
This happens when a call comes and data transfer is suspended. It also happens if i had given 3 4 simultaneous downloads. What I understand is that the podcast app does not retry a failed download if it is interrupted. This is some thing you can take a look and probably release a fix

The thing that frightens me off is that the only app I’ve downloaded on my N95 took so long to install that I gave up. The Nokia N95 is a bit of a slug when it comes to processing power and I don’t know how long this will take?
@Jukka concerning IAP groups: yes S60 3rd edition offers IAP groups, but:
a) not all applications are able to use them
b) you can’t attach one IAP to two different groups (which would be useful for creating different groups for different applications: for email a group which combines WLAN at home and office WLAN and GPRS is okay, while a group for podcasting with the two WLAN acces points only would be better)

Can’t use internet with Wi-Fi. I connect to notebook with wi-fi with my nokia, but i can’t use internet on my notebook with my n95.
Is there any progress being made with the podcasting app? I’ve just got an N95 and was hoping to use it for playing my podcasts but sadly it can’t tell if a podcast has been played or not, and even if a podcast is marked played manually (!) it can’t even delete those marked as played. Fine as long as you only play one or two podcasts a day but I play something in the region of 10-15 per day. It gets unusable almost immediately.
Also this blog’s download lists version 1.00.3 as the latest, but my N95 has 1.10.1 installed. Has this “blog” been forgotten?

Hey Steve, are there any plans for adding a hierarchical folder- or tag-based system for organising the podcasts you’ve subscribed to?
I use the podcasting app daily and find that it gets really difficult to keep track of subscribed podcasts as your number of subscriptions go up. Thanks!
Is there any development work still being done on the podcasting app? It seems to have stagnated as has this “blog”… Nothing more frustrating than the appearance of activity that lures you in only to peter out almost immediately.
I couldn’t agree more. Podcasting has to be among the most erudite of customers; the sort that say Apple with their Think different, brand positioning pays a lot of attention to. One only has to look at the iTunes software to see how podcasting is paid a lot of attention.
Why should I need to subscribe to a third-party online service? Surely this functionality should be built-into S60? It really wouldn’t take up too much space, surely? Truphone manage to do it really well from within their tiny app.
