Review: Nokia Wrist Band CP-218

See into S60 - September 24th, 2007 - Written by schwarzm

Tired of recharging batteries? Sick of firmware updates? Fed up with long instruction manauals? Then I’ve got what you need - The Nokia Wrist Band CP-218!

The CP-218 is essentially a gym sock with a hole cut in it and the word “Nokia” printed on it, but it’s exactly the kind of accessory I’ve been looking for. You simply place it on your wrist (not sure if it’ll fit all the way up past your elbow) and insert your device, there’s an additional hole for wired headsets.

I went jogging over the weekend, it remained firmly onto my wrist. It didn’t slid up and down or twirl around, even as I got sweaty (unlike my current armband). My Nokia N95 stayed snuggly inside, which is crucial for runners. While running you can rather easily remove your device, fiddle with the music, then simply place it back.

The N95 is the perfect size for it, you can even keep the music keys open, so you don’t need to remove the phone from the wristband to change the music. However, you’re unable to keep the keypad out, so you probably won’t be able to use GPS while you run.

There’s quite a few phones listed on the official compatibility chart. I tried a few S60 devices myself, even though it’s not listed as compatible, I just had to try the Nokia E90 Communicator…but it wouldn’t fit. I feared the Nokia N76 may be too skinny to remain firmly in place, but I reckon it would work just fine. The opening in the wrist band has no closing mechanism, before I did my first run I feared it might pop out, but it didn’t and I don’t think it ever would, unless maybe you shook your arms violently for an extended period of time.

It’s so simple yet works so well, no need for more high-tech fabrics or straps. And when you come back from a long run, just throw it in the laundry with the rest of your clothes. I assume this will be quite an inexpensive accessory, so you can easily afford to purchase a few if you’re a regular athlete. I love it!

You could have tested the gps functionality. I bet it works fine, because it works even from my pocket when the lid is closed.

LOL interesting accessory to go well with Sports Tracker. Is this for real though? The links to the product page not working for me.

It’s a good thing, but don’t get me wrong… it looks like an april’s 1st kind of thing.

On the serious side, you could have reserved a space for the screen.

by the way… do you jog whit that outfit? is it ok to run with jeans? :) eheh

Funny stuff Phil. I was all excited because I thought this really was a product that would help carry the N95 on a run. I have used an iPod Shuffle (2nd gen) holder to carry the N91 on runs safely, but haven’t tried it with the N95. I like the N95 for music because it supports GPS and my Yahoo! Music subscription.

Do you know of a real product that is designed to carry the N95 when you workout? Something that may protect it from sweat or the environment?

Good point, I’ve always just assumed you need it open, maybe it works better now with AGPS when it’s closed? I’ll test it today.

Yeah that’s what I really could have used, even though it’s easy to take it out of the pouch, it would be much easier to manipulate the music with the N95 still in there.

You’d all have even a bigger laugh if you saw me in my skimpy jogging outfit.

“Who wears short shorts? Phil wears short shorts!” :-)

I’m not joking around man, this is for real!

I’ve been begging our accessories people to come up with a jogging band for my N95. I went out and bought some universal armband but it sucks. This is much better.

    Nice.

I hope my Nokia Shop in Potsdam get it in the next few weeks ;-)If I go ther often they say what thing. Last time the Boss says to my mum, the get for me my Update firmware phone, thet i now more then him.

I was oft tinging wear i can put my N95 if i walk with my dog and I wont listen my music, with out the earphones because I hate them.

But now Nokia show the reat thing for this Problem. Now the mast only show and Bag with solar cells , to lode the battery , and with interacted microphone and loudspeaker for hands free calls.
And of course spectacle Buttes to play Music and hang calls. The best will be if it consist of and GPS Modul.

The ultimate insult to the US — first the cool devices are not available, and now even the silly accessories are not available!

S60 fans of the US, unite! We demand our Nokia tube socks! USA! USA! USA!

    Do you believe in miracles??

OMG, I seriously couldn’t figure out if you were for real or not, Phil. That’s great. However, since you’ve got the N95 in there, is there a hole for the headset cord to come out of, since the jack is on the side of the phone? It’d be nice if there was a little slot to put the cord through.

Wonder if these’ll be in the goody bags in L.A……

For anyone who had just gotten hold of a brand new PSP, learning how to put psp game downloads to PSP is something that should be learned. Learning how to do so can help a person enjoy his PSP to the fullest, explore all of its features and maximize its use.
