First off I apologize for my absence from the blog lately, I’ve been busy with work and other things in real life.

Now that I got that out of the way onto the thing that you really can here to read about, a free game for your S60 device! Frozen Bubble is one of the best puzzle games around and there is an excellent port of it from GNU/Linux to S60 available on Sourceforge. It has been available for S60 first edition and S60 2nd edition devices for a long while, but it took some time to bring it S60 3rd edition due to issues with platform security and changes in the way S60 works. Fortunately a couple months ago it was successfully updated and released for S60 3rd edition devices!

What are you waiting for? Go download it now and start playing!

Now that the challenge of updating Frozen Bubble to S60 3rd edition has been accomplished there are a couple things that I would like to see work start on:

1. Instead of having different versions for Landscape and Portrait screens add support for changing between Landscape and Portrait Views on the fly just like other S60 apps. I’m sure there are some guys in Forum Nokia that can help add this functionality.
2. The other thing that I would like to see some work started on is a much larger task - a port of Frozen Bubble 2.0 for S60. Late last year Frozen Bubble had a major update to add online multiplayer gaming for up to 5 players (among other features). This new functionality was long in the works by the Open Source developers, but now it was finally completed and released. I would love to see this Online multiplayer feature in the S60 version, unfortunately it would require a major rework of the current S60 version. I hope someday an enterprising hacker or university student releases Frozen Bubble 2.0 for S60 and then we can all play this great online game against friends and opponents on either PCs or S60 devices anywhere in the world!

Have a good weekend.
