   It is made for WAP handsets in mind. Your Nokia N95 doesn’t have the services browser since it is S60 3rd Edition FP1.

   I’m loving this beta, I wonder what the browser team thinks hehe.

   Stefan, the “Services” browser is not there but all of the legacy WAP stuff is built inside OSS browser.

   I posted an editorial about this. I think the new beta is great. As to how it compares to the S60 browser, I think there are good and bad points. The S60 browser is more integrated, and has more features (the Opera Mini beta doesn’t have RSS for example), however Opera Mini renders pages faster, and is Java based so available to anyone.

   I got an IM this morning informing me of the beta. I’ve installed it successfully on my N95 but has a few issues installing it on the E61i.

   I had issues downloading Opera Mini to my N95 too (worked fine on the N73) I found a link for the file, I just downloaded it to the PC and copied it to my phone. If anyone needs it this is the link:

   Ever since the early days Opera Mini has been a standard install on all phones I have owned. Even with the excellent S60 browser, Opera Mini is a good back up to have. Along with the Gmail java app and the Yell.com java app, Opera Mini is a must on all phones.

   One would think that with the added feature to render pages the way they actually look Opera Mini would also work with WiFi now, but it still doesn’t, which is too bad.

   For lower end phones the ability to really see actual web pages is of course truly awesome, but on my N95, at least as long as I’m using WiFi, I still prefer the also far more integrated (duh!) Safari S60 browser - even though on my current firmware the keypad shortcuts don’t work which makes for more menu clicking.

   BTW - Vodafone Germany is already offering version 4 with their new “Web 2.0″ feature, not mentioning the fact that it’s an early beta with a single word…tztztz!

   The browser is great, especially for those who often visit the same pages and know the layouts… I have an E61i and couldnt install it using the S60 browser. Had to install opera mini 3.1 first, and then download the beta version through it.

    I’m using my N95 via Wifi over the Opera Mini. Without any problems. Maybe your should check you configuration again.

    Worked like a dream first time on my N95. Although I do remember having trouble when I installed opera 3, things didn’t work out well.

    Out of interest the N95 browser doesn’t deal well with content types it doesn’t understand. It would be good if we had an option to save the file…

    Chris, I totally agree with you, the S60 FP1 browser should be able to download all sorts of content types. Currently it just gives an error message “Not supported” when you try to download a file that has a MIME type that is not associated with any S60 applications. S60 Browser team can you please look into fixing this problem?

    Hmm, very odd, as You suggested I just tried again, as the setting were ok, and this time it worked. Just like that. Well…

    Alright, so now all N95 users have two browsers that can display full blown websites, just that Opera uses way less KB but is not quite as flexible and versatile (as mentioned - RSS etc.). Also I am under the impression that the overview mode in Safari lets You still read at least some headlines, while on Opera it’s all just a blur. Or is it just me (again )?

    The v5 software for N80 has been just released, still the old Browser/Services combo. My guess that this “browser will be updated on older S60v3 phones” was just a marketing vaporware.

    opera is great! she compress web page to reduce the size of data transferred, enabling handling on simpler phones and creating fast browsing at low costs!

    I just bought a 649 Euros N95 while on vacations on France. I live in the US and I love the website Cellfire.com. You have many cool coupons that you can show on your screen.

    To make the story short I can’t access the wap/mobile website using the browser on the N95. On my previous phone, the E65, I never had any issues because I was using the “services web browsing”.

    Many other website are not working at all. I’m very disappointed with the N95. As everybody knows the battery really sucks and now there is a problem with the web browser that can’t handle some wap or mobile website.

    I just can’t understand why Nokia decided to remove this great “service browser” ? It will be a great idea to add again on the next Symbian release ???

    But the point about the missing ‘Services’ browser in S60 3rd Edition FP1 is crucial. My own site uses the same URL to serve both WAP and HTML. Both the standard N95 browser and Opera mini 4 take me to the HTML version when I want the XHTML version. Is there an N95 browser which can force a WAP session?
