Nokia Video Manager available for download

In addition to a minor update for PC Suite and iSync plugins for Mac OS, there is a brand new add-on application for the PC Suite: meet Nokia Video Manager.

The purpose of this application is to manage and transfer video clips between your phone/device and PC. The beauty of Video Manager is in the transparent on-the-fly transcoding it does for your video clips when transferred from PC to phone. This way you don’t have to care which format, bitrate etc. your material is, it will get optimized quality and size-wise when copied to the phone.

Compatability is promised only for Nokia models 6110 Navigator, Nokia 6290 and Nokia 5700 XpressMusic. What’s up with that, I don’t know.. I tried it briefly with my Nokia N76 and it seemed to work just fine. Hopefully support is added for other S60 devices also since the video capabilities vary a lot between various models. And who knows the exact parameters for each device better than Nokia?

Let me know your experiences or enhancement ideas!

Update 13.4.2007: Based on comments from users and my experience, looks like in addition to officially compatible devices some of the newer (Nseries) devices can play back MP4 (H.264) videos produced by Video Manager. Those “un-officially” supported devices include N93/N93i, N95, N76 and E90.

Will it be possible to view with this application also quicktime movies on nokia phones?

  2. Jukka Eklund wrote

Yes, you can convert Quicktime (.mov) videos with this application so that they will play on the phone.

well, I can live without File-Open… feature (to select individual files instead of searching), but it crashes every time I try to convert something on Vista.

Also i have problems with application crash in Music manager when I try to convert files (converting cd`s is ok).

how can I investigate this problem?
can it be conflict with nero 7?

  4. Jukka Eklund wrote

panariga, sounds like there might some problem with codecs I think Video Manager uses whatever is available in Windows (also from Nero 7 in your case).

It’s best you go through official channel ie.

    It ain’t working with N73 =(

It doesn’t do DVDs, so I’ll stick with Nokia Media Studio from Makayama, which is excellent and also takes DVDs, YouTube movies etc.

Will it work with E Series phones?

  9. Jukka Eklund wrote

Henrique, ovidiu: at this point we can only try and see if it works, I don’t have the information. Please post your findings here for others too see!

I it with N80 (firmware 4.0632.0.38 13-10-2006), but it doesn’t work unfortunately. Tried all the different qualities. N80 plays the audio of the clip but doesn’t show the video.

This is still the first version of Nokia’s Video Manager. It looks like now it supports S60 3rd FP1 devices plus some high-end Nseries. Too bad that I have only N73 and E61 with me now, so I couldn’t really try this application.
Let’s hope that the next version will support more and more devices.

Thanks Monty for the tip! Looks like they just updated it. And the compatibility list is updated as well:

    Nokia N76, N77, N92, N93, N93i, N95, 5700 XpressMusic, 6110 Navigator, 6120 Classic, and 6290 phones

Although no mention of Eseries and the other 3rd edition (pre FP1) devices…

Vic, you’re right. It doesn’t support whole DVD convertion and YouTube service, so I would stay with my Warelex’s Mobiola Studio for Nokia.

Hi. Is the application available for N73 phones yet please? Does anyone know when it will be? Or is there a good alternative I could use for now?
    Thank you
