I liked the “deer” part!!!
As a Nokia E61 user, I request we get this upgraded browser!
You know S60 users deserve the upgrade. I bought my E61 because of Symbian onboard, and great web browser. Since new one is not depending on FP1 why not releasing some patch or something?
PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS
Best part of this e61 is the browser… I use this for most of my browing these days… It would be really bad if we are (who did the beta of all the symbian 9.0 and S60 ed3) all left out… I am also wondering why an software has to be tied to the hardware?????? Pleaseeee spare us we have spent our time and money in buying what most the market guys call a prototype nokia put out to test…… But this device is betteer than any of the other devicess in the market from sony, samsung, hp etc…..
I’m an E61 user, and I want the new browser.
Please?
Please, please, please..let us upgrade to the new browser… I don’t understand why its not being offered… the hardware requirements are the same. Its for this reason why I got a smartphone…so i could upgrade my software!
One of the best features - especially compared to the Windows Mobile 5 phones - of my E61 is the web browser. And there is basically nothing more I would love to have than an even better web browser. Please, think of all the current users and make the new browser available to E61/E60 and E70 owners. I don’t necessary need the rest of the features, just a new browser.
Thanks in advance
I imagine you’ll be deluged with comments like this, but I’m with the others in imploring you to please provide an update for the E60/E61/E70 devices. I bought my E61 specifically because it was supposed to have some legs in terms of an upgrade path for the software. People told me that there were timely firmware updates coming out, which is part of what sold me on the platform. If Nokia intentionally withholds software which could easily run on this device in an attempt to encourage me and others to upgrade to a slightly newer phone, I fear it may backfire. I, for one, will probably look at linux-based phones with renewed interest. This sort of thing could quickly sour my impression of Nokia, unfortunately.
If Nokia intentionally withholds software which could easily run on this device in an attempt to encourage me and others to upgrade to a slightly newer phone, I fear it may backfire.
I’d fear the same thing, especially considering that ALL other 3rd Edition software will work on 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. The browser will be the exception.
I love my excellent e61 but I find the Nokia browser beautiful but slow - I often use opera mini when I want speed. If the new Nokia browser would perform better on my E61, please can I have a free upgrade.
D.
I’d like to put in another voice in regards to making this new browser available to s60v3 non-FP1 devices. I think by not, you’re punishing the people you count on most, those who are the first in line for a new product. We early adopters are the ones who waited patiently and overspent on the new s60v3 devices before there was any software support. We suffered through missing our favorite Symbian programs while those developers worked hard to get their stuff signed, and we love our phones.
By forcing us to upgrade to the next phones so quickly, you’re not only kinda giving us the finger, you’re also bastardizing this first batch of s60v3 phones. The second generation of users, those who wait for us Early Adopters to upgrade and they buy our used phones, they’re getting the shaft, as well.
We’re not asking for much. Just the browser that SHOULD have shipped with our phones to begin with.
i neeeeeeeeeed this browser!!!!
e70
& e-series at all is the main one who has to get this browser & only after them n95…
Thanks for all the requests and comments. As said in my podcast, we are exploring different options. your requests are being heard and we will keep you posted with any information about getting the latest browser.
Thanks for the great support and interest. It means a lot to us.
That’s very considerate of Nokia for “exploring different options”, but like I said on Tommi’s blog (http://blogs.s60.com/tommi/2006/09/s60_web_browser_20.html), ‘maybe’, we’ll see, ‘probably’ aren’t an option when investing 400€ in a business Smartphone.
I took the device back to the shop about two hours ago. I can afford to loose 400€ on crap, I can’t afford a business device that has such a short life span.
Somebody should be very ashamed at Nokia.
Good work Ganesh, I appreciate the Nokia team’s efforts in bringing great experiences to our fingertips where ever we go. However, I believe you should supply this new great browser as part of the next firmware release for Nokia N80 internet edition. After all, this will make the name more appropriate now. Also, other S60v3 phone editions should have this option as well. Please understand us and make this happen.
Zoran, how does not having the lates version of the browser make your E61 obsolete? Is the older version of the browser completely useless all of a sudden? Does your E61 die or turn into a brick if a new version of it comes out?
Having said that, I of course support the idea that the new browser be made available to the existing phones, one way or the other (I guess Nokia need to explore the options for doing this, right? ;-))
Ganesh, it might be useful if you could elaborate in a bit more detail why you indeed need to explore the options rathen than just make a download available or something? Would you be in a position to do that withou giving away any secrets?
An upgrade to the new version would indeed be very nice. Ganesh, what is holding this up? A licensing/revenue issue? I’d even consider a nominal upgrade fee as acceptable. The mere fact that the upgrade is just not available unfortunately points to an attitude of indifference to your end-users/customers.
*** Viipottaja,
I’ll reprint my comment to your post on http://blogs.s60.com/tommi/2006/09/s60_web_browser_20.html.
I’m affraid you don’t understand the basis of the problem at hand.
The issue **isn’t the browser** but what it says about Nokia’s mindset concerning the E61. As a business user it just doesn’t make me confident that I can count on Nokia for decent support & evolution of the E61 platform.
This is maybe acceptable for the 5300 user base but not for the E61 audience. They normally don’t change smart phones as often as they change shirts.
It just shows that Nokia isn’t a “strong partner” with this device. In my case, I decided to sell and cut my losses before I passed the point of no return.
I love my e62 — just wish it was faster at opening emails and files.
I heard that Nokia just put out a software upgrade for the e61 which significantly increased the speed of the user interface…
Can anybody confirm that news? Is the upgrade applicable for the e62? If no, any news on upcoming softward enhancements for the e62?
thx.

Five months since the last post, more so for Nokia’s we’ll consider it, a definate maybe, ect and still no word. I wonder why, don’t you? Caould it be cause of the way we acted? Yes, yes, I think so.
Forum after forum I see complaints over this improved browser not being ported back to previous os9.1 devices like my E61. Some polite people but really just sheer nasty remarks for the most part. Would you want to help someone who said things in the same tone you told to Nokia cause I’m not feeling very motivated. Feelings are important but there is a way to act. Nokias’ image is just important to you as ours is to them. So a few of you might leave. Yeah we lost some real winners there, ouch, make it stop.
Secondly, companies don’t make money Servicing previous customers but to cater to the needs of future customers. None of us was ripped off here! We knew what we were paying for at the time of purchase. Nokia never once said these phones entittle any of us to anything beyond a one year warrenty though this company has taken it upon themselves to do so. We have widsets, podcasting, shoutcast, image search, and now even a beta testing area for more new apps comming forth. Nokia isn’t billing for these but rather providing new and innovated ways to use OUR phones at THEIR expense. Like any one here has the right to demand Nokia to do this or else I’m leaving. Ungreateful.
To the people who were polite and sincere in theire requests, look around and see who can be ruining it for you and don’t be like one of them cause’ you didn’t get what you asked for. To the haters’ move the hell on. Buy from LG or motorola. Send me some hate mail while your at it rainingportland@aol.com To Nokia, keep on spankin’ those geniuses of yours cause I wanna die in a Nokia mobile phone/caskit!
