Games - May 10th, 2006 - Written by Jukka Eklund

It’s E3 showtime, and Nokia has opened a special N-Gage E3 site which is also a blog!

Head on to the site for details on next generation of N-Gage games (hence the title), pictures, videos and so on.

I suppose you don’t know or can’t answer about it, but in some of the videos of the new tech demo, we can see actual N-series devices like N71, N73, N80 or N93 using the new interface or playing with games. Does this mean that the new platform will be some kind of application we can add to actual devices are these phones being used only to demo it and not show the look of the really new devices that will carry the n-gage platform in the future?

Nokia is taking the fun of “gaming on the go” to an unprecedented level with our next generation mobile gaming platform, available on a range of Nokia Nseries smartphones in 2007.

Pretty clear, isn’t it? Some if not all Nseries phones will have the platform in 2007. There is an application, see the screenshot in post and more on the site. About the new games, System Rush is already announced as bundled with N93.

Yeah, I’m curious to, pretty confusing announcement indeed :?
Anyway considering that N93 comes with preinstalled System Rush I suppose it will be fully compatible with latest N series wave?!

So, come on Jukka, clear our doubts :D
    Kind regards,
    Teo

Oh, nice answer. I’m more and more pleased with these s60blogs. Not only they have new and cool info, they also reveal clearly future info ;-).

I think it’s pretty clear for you as you know the answer xDD for us the rest of the mortals “a range of Nokia Nseries smartphones” could mean tens things, not neccesary the n-series available now, but could also mean new n-series launched in 2007. Now i’m more happy to know that next year I don’t have to buy a new phone xDD

well, you know, N93 is the symbian it has landscape mode and after all with an estimated, unsubsidized sales price of approximately 550 euros it is pretty cheap for offered features!?

    Kind regards,
    Teo

Incidentally, Nokia did actually say the N-gage next gen isn’t just for Nseries, but for other S60 devices too:

    http://www.n-gage.com/e3/index.htm

“on a range of Nokia Nseries multimedia computers and other Nokia S60 devices”

…which makes sense as they’re all Symbian S60 hardware. Nseries is more of a marketing term than anything else.

    >No new n-gage(cheap landscape >and symbian) device right? :( >
    >*sigh*

I asked Gerard Wiener about this directly last year, and he said they might do another gaming-oriented model IF… they manage to get a good enough userbase for the games on the “normal” models.

As for price, Symbians are definitely getting cheaper. The latest Symbian model announced is the 5500, which is going to be sold for 300 euros (about $350) sim-free, which is about the same price that the original N-Gage launched for. Give it a few months and the price will start moving towards 200 euros. I don’t know if it will ever use N-gage games, but it shows that the price of Symbian hardware is going down all the time.

By 2007 we might see them launching Symbian models for less than 300 euros.

For those wanting to learn a little bit more about the Next Generation Mobile Gaming platform, here’s a link to the N-gage Developer website that has more information than the E3 site. More details of the new SDKs will be forthcoming in the next few months, but this is a good start, in my opinion.

I’m looking forward to Nokia coming out with a Google-Android based phone as an iPhone killer.
